New piracy law?

A new law has been passed prohibiting piracy in Trinidad and Tobago. How effective do you think this will be? Are you against piracy? Why or why not?

it'll be as effective as me getting my parrot to stop cussing...never gonna happen...

most people have Nero on their computer, im one of them, its easy to get an install hence the reason why piracy is never gonna stop until some sort of ban is put on the original disc making it unable to copy.

im being honest here, im not sure how i feel about it..

lets face facts, yes we know making movies & recording albums cost alot of money, however i still feel original cd's & dvd's are way to expensive.

i have few originals, bob marley, celine..... the classics.

im not gonna spend $150 on another cd when its only 1 song that i like..

Copyright protection is vested in original CDs and DVDs.

The copyright owner, for example, the producer or songwriter or composer or publisher has a series of exclusive rights. These rights include the right to authorize or prohibit the reproduction of the work.

Pirated music CDs and DVD movies are unauthorized copies, for which, the copyright owner does not receive any payment.

Piracy has a deleterious effect upon the economic livelihood of entertainers and by extension, persons who work in the entertainment industry.

Already in Trinidad and Tobago, well-known entertainers have indicated that they will not release new music locally due to the fact that they have suffered serious economic loss on account of the piracy of their works

I am against piracy but I must admit that the majority of the people I know see nothing wrong with it unless it affects local soca artists.

Most people seem to think Hollywood can stand to lose a few dollars and the poor man should have inexpensive entertainment. To purchase pirated material is to endorse and participate in theft. There is no gray area here.

The law sounds good, but as with every law, the ability to enforce it will be the proof of the pudding. We go see nah!

I can say that I am against piracy - but I do buy DVD's for $10.00!

Even though they say its not "pirated" or "bootlegged" or "taped straight from the cimema - with people walking infront the screen" its still wrong since the original copy is not being bought.

But people will always buy or rent DVD's since its rather costly to purchase the oringinal version. The owners need to consider this aspect and come up with some stratergy to combat this - technology helps only for a while, until the next whiz breaks the code

"a new law"...that law was always there,is just that they feel to do a little imposing,Personally i do not think it will work 100% because corruption is everywhere, but it may curb it a little.I have to admit that i sometimes support piracy and but $10.00 CD and DVD,so i am guilty.

But on the other hand i am not going to spend 2 and 3 hundred dollars on those things

No, it is not unlawful to sit down and watch a action picture with acquaintances and relatives. that's no longer seen a "public overall performance" of the action picture. working example, it extremely is rather legal to checklist a action picture from cable or broadcast television, invite some acquaintances over and watch it at the same time. The piracy rules are aimed in the direction of those making unlawful copies and publishing them (importing) or in any different case allotting them with out permission of the copyright proprietor (no count number if or no longer there are expenditures). an excellent form of websites that "show you how to bypass movies" are no longer authorized publishers of the action picture, for this reason any replica you acquire might additionally be an unlawful replica, no count number if or no longer you ever watch it, in my view or with others. it is like "possession of stolen products"; in case you knew it grow to be stolen, then you certainly're in violation of the regulation for receiving it, no count number if or no longer you paid for it.

I-tunes is the way forward anyway.

    1. buy ONLY the song that you like.

    2. buy it VERY easily.

    3. Buy it cheaply. @US75cents per song.

    4. Always good quality audio.

same ship .... it had laws existing before

Only when the TTPS feel that they need a free PR to show that they are "working" you will see some "arrestes" ( a la Martin Joseph)
