Any ideas? They are drilling holes in our power poles and digging at the bases?
The drill bit is about 1/2 inch. The holes are about 3 feet from the ground, some poles have more than one hole. They seem to be doing this all over town. Now the holes are filled. They dug all around the poles, but not very deep. The poles are telephone, power poles and are creosoted.. What are they doing this for?

It is to allow the draining off of the creosote during very hot weather. It helps the pols stay more clean rather than have large bubbly black tar blotches and also split.

they could have been checking for rot, sometimes the outer skin of the pole looks fine but the centre goes soft, then next thing someone gets a pole on their swede
