What causes dead pixels?
My macbook has been getting more and more dead pixels lately and I'm trying to figure out if it's something I'm doing wrong or if it's something that just happens over time.
They're not huge, just small gray dots all over the screen.

If your LCD screen has a stuck or dead pixel (a point on the screen that is always lit or always dark), it is usually due to a transistor malfunction or uneven distribution of liquid in the liquid crystal display (TFT LCD). This can often be fixed.

A dead pixle is just that, DEAD. The scren is made up of millions of pixels and they are nothing but the intersection grid of LCD's (liquid crystals) info wires.
When the juncture goes dead you are left with an information gap (no information) and hence, a grey coloring.
This is an indication of the deterioation of the screen in general. The older LCD screens have a relatively short life span compared to newer screens. Better get prepared for a screen change or a new computer.

Yeah, they sometimes burn out. Make sure your screen isn't getting up close and personal with magnets or speakers (since they have magnets). They can damage the pixels, but they do burn out over time plus if you have a model thats prone to them ie industry defect etc, you might be more prone to them. Good Luck.

When you leave your monitor on, and you don't have a screen saver that changes the coloring, they can burn out. You have to do this a lot and over a long period of time.
