Aliens - a 21st century religion?

I seem to notice a lot of parallels between religious people and 'we are being visited by aliens' people.

1. Both think they are speaking of absolute fact and people who don't believe are blind, yet neither can produce evidence that holds up under scrutiny

2. Alien abductions. The come in the night and do sexual experiments like probing and specifically stealing semen or eggs or impregnate women. Middle ages stories of demons who would visit in the night to have sex and take semen or impregnate women.

3. Saviours. God/Jesus is supposed to save us from doomsday. Aliens are going to help us through 2012/whatever other doomsday.

4. Ascension to a higher plane. Religious people go to some equivalent of heaven. Alien folks go to higher dimensions.

5. Higher beings. Angels/higher dimensional aliens.

6. Claims of persecution. Both claim to be ignored by a scientific community that is too set on it's own ideology.

Update:

7. Conspiracy theories. Religious folks have the one world government/antichrist junk and alien folks have Roswell and Area 51 stuff.

8. Prophecies of doom. Both claim to know how to save humanity if we listen to them.

9. Creation. God put humans on earth in his image, humans are not related to animals. Aliens either engineered human life in their image or seeded all earth life.

It seems far too correlative to be a coincidence. I think they come from the same mindset. Could we be witnessing the formation of a modernized religion?

Update 2:

Puma - yeah, I'm actually one of those open to the idea of alien life out there. I'm talking about the little green men in flying saucers people.

Update 3:

Brant - bah! I guess truly original ideas are a hard thing to come across.

Update 4:

rootbeer - actually no, I was pointing out how similar all religions (including christianity) are like alien theorists. If anything, I was trying to discredit alien theorists by comparing them to christians.

And as for your 'overwhelming evidence' comment, see number 1. - 'neither can produce evidence that holds up under scrutiny.'

Just you saying it so does not make it so, this evidence you speak of simply does not exist. This is why over 90% of the greatest scientists are fundamentally atheistic.

Everything you've said is true except that this was a 20th century religion, first. I hate it when that happens. I come up with what I think is a new idea or unique perspective, only to discover I was pre-empted by someone else.

I remember reading some articles back maybe in the 70s or 80s about the parallels between religion and UFOlogy. I'm sorry, but I can't remember where I saw them. Well, on the positive side, at least you know now that your idea was good enough to have made press in the past.

faith belongs interior the margins of society! a non secular state can under no circumstances be fairly unfastened because of the fact there'll constantly be people who dare to dream of greater desirable issues. this is real that one attainable result could be the persevered secularization of the worldwide as an entire. whether, the different attainable result seems somewhat greater like the inquisition than something. it rather is because of the fact alongside with an boost in secularism, fundamentalists are additionally increasing in huge style. And in the event that they have something to declare approximately it, faith will retake the faculty room. If this occurs, enable me purely to declare, we are royally boned. the ideas-blowing result will, i think of, be desperate via training. Ever observe maximum fundis haven't any clue how evolution works? think of in the event that all of them new! What a disaster of religion particularly some them would have. shall we desire for the terrific.

I just think that people, for some reason, need to believe there is something other than themselves "in charge" or "watching" or just bigger than we are....Some do it with science, others, who maybe find it easier to grasp someone else's idea than create their own, do it with religion. Personally, I'm fascinated by all of it. I'm just sitting back, and waiting to see who was right! LOL

I just can't seem to find a way to really "believe" either way. I have a problem with something coming from nothing...and i also have a problem with an all knowing all mighty God who expects us to blindly believe in him, OR ELSE!!

wait...did this have anything to do with your question?? haha sorry.

Well, the crackpot alien theorists are different from those of us who are open to the idea of alien life being out there, although whether they have ever visited us, or can visit us, is a different matter.

If you're trying to discredit christianity by lableing us as just alien theorists ytou should consider this. It takes a little science to disproove christianity. But when you aplie alot of science, you find overwhelming eveidence that christianity is real.

Religion: "A system of belief in a higher power or God"

Since 99.99 % in science are theories, I don't see a better religion than science itself.

What is the God of science?: The big bang!

What is the Jesus of science?: Evolution!

What is the bible of science?: Theories!

If l can't build a rocket to go to mars, at least I can build a plain and go to the pyramids. :-)

Let's hope the UFOlogists stay disorganized. I'd hate to see what they could do if they ever agreed on a philosophy.

Excuse me but Scientology is that religion and everyone rejects it so no more alien religions please its bull crap to reality.
