Ultrasonic transmission?

Does anybody know how to test an ultrasonic transmission device (i.e. ultrasonic pest repeller) if it actually emits ultrasonic waves? It doesn’t have lights or a test button that makes the ultrasonic range to the audible range or anything else of that sort, just the device itself and ac-dc adaptor with an outlet plug.

Go to RadioShack (or order one online from a general retailer of speakers), and purchase a tweeter that has an upper frequency range of 40,000 to 50,000 Hz. Connect a sensitive current meter to the tweeter and place it in front of the transmitter. In an otherwise quiet roon, if anything registers on the meter, the transmitter is working.
