    It isn't known yet.

Salmonella can be both on the outside of something or on the inside.

If the salmonella came from the "wash water" at a tomato processing plant, and if the tomatoes were washed after the stems were removed, the salmonella may be on the inside.

A recent salmonella outbreak was caused by cantaloupes being contaminated on the outside. As consumers cut into unwashed cantaloupes, the salmonella was forced into the fruit.

Thorough cooking kills salmonella. However in this instance that is not recommended. Contaminated foods are often of animal origin, such as beef, poultry, milk, or eggs, but any food, including vegetables, may become contaminated.

Salmonella is usually transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal feces. Contaminated foods usually look and smell normal. Thoroughly washing any vegetable or fruit is extremely important when bringing it home for consumption.

This latest outbreak is scary to say the least. Be sure you know where your vegetables are coming from. The FDA has stated that cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes and tomatoes on the vine are safe.

The large beefsteak tomatoes and plum tomatoes are the risky ones right now. To be safe the FDA does not recommend that you cook them, throw them out or go to the market and get a refund..

all the suspected tomatoes have been yanked from the shops, so which you'll be risk-free. Logically, the exterior could be contaminated, yet i does no longer take any possibilities on eating a tomato that replaced into offered earlier the bear in mind. once you have become tomatoes out of your guy or woman backyard or a farmer's industry, you're o.ok.
