PC DVD player question?

I have a DVD-R/W on my PC, but when I put a DVD into it, the drive does not detect it. The Drive is installed as a DVD player and it is not due to disk damage. It seems as though the disk is not even spinning. When I try to explore the disk it says that there is no disk in the drive.

Any help would be appriciated.

Update:

It plays CDs perfectly, so I doubt it is a connection issue, and the drive powers up. I also thought it might be a driver issue, but was not sure that it would still ID the drive as a DVD player under myComputer if it was not installed to play DVDs.

Update 2:

Oh and I have tried all sorts of DVDs, VIdeos, Games, Information.

If its like it with all discs then remove the cables from the dvd drive and remove the cables for that drive from the motherboard and re-insert.

If still no joy then go to the manufacturer website and see if theres any firmware upgrades for it.

Firmware is like drivers except instead of installing onto your operating system its permanantly written to the hardware - so make sure you use the right firmware else you could make your drive even worse.

It does sound like a driver problem. If the driver has crashed it won't affect it's ID, it'll still call it a DVD, it just won't know how to use it (DVD drives have separate drivers for CD's).

Check the website for you drive and try to get new drivers.

Some DVD players have problems with some Brands-that might be your problem.Try a other Brand. Are you sure your DVD player works-does it read Cd's?
