My internet has been down for days, and my phone line is crackly.?
Talk Talk, my ISP, tell me they are looking into it, but I'm unhappy with their methods & timescales. I reported the internet as being out of action on Sunday, & was told it would take 24-48 hours. I ran through the usual checks, changing the filter, using 2 filters, different modem, you name it. They've just realised that there may be a fault with the phone, & asked me to ring and report that. They've also told me that there may be a problem at the Blackburn exchange. Does anyone have the same problem?

Broadband companies, including BT use technology called DSLAM in the exchange, which gives the ability of voice and data over the line. However, TalkTalk (Opal) do not use Dslam (or ADSL), they use a product which is only still being trialed by BT (in Cardiff, I believe), this new product is for the roll-out of the new phone-line structure across the UK which BT have been working on for the last couple of years, known as 21CN. In otherwords, talktalk (opal) broadband IS NOT COMPATABLE with ADSL lines, or can be “shaky”, i.e service drop out, low speeds etc etc. In order for a customer to have proper service, the customers line must be an ordinary PSTN line, and not a broadband enabled line (ADSL) when it moves over to TalkTalk…..So , the chances are if your service (BB) is dropping out, or running slow, the chances are you have an ADSL line, and TalkTalk are using a technology which is not DSLAM at the exchange……
Ring BT and ask if your line was an ADSL line when it moved over to TalkTalk, if so, then you will have problems

Hello.TalkTalk talk out of their backsides. I ditched them three months ago after endless discussions with them about mainly internet.I assume you have both your landline and internet with them?
If you make just a call from your landline,do you have a clear line or a crackly line when you're chatting? If its a clear line, then there's nothing wrong with the phone or the line.If its a crackly line,TalkTalk should notify BT Openreach and get it fixed for you.
I too got sick to death of TalkTalks technical service. I did all things like they've asked you to do. Knowing how reluctant TalkTalk are for not wanting to do anything useful except blame the customer, and passing the buck back to the customer as they're very good at doing,I would ask a friend if they have a modem which they use and which is a working one. I would then switch modems again and see if your internet connection works properly. If yes,it is made better by a new modem,I suggest you go out and buy one of your choosing as TalkTalk modems are cheap, nasty little things which should have a government health warning on them.
You are being given lame excuses just as I was. I left TalkTalk and went to BT for my phone and Tiscali for my internet. This solved my problem.
I do hope yours will be sorted out soon but don't put up with any nonsense from them. You pays for what you get with TalkTalk.

About 4 weeks ago I had the same problem. I too have talk talk as my ISP. I reported, they came and found the fault in my line inside my house.. They fixed it and it has been fine after that.

Unfortuantely, this is very common due to the deregulation of the Telecoms industry thanks to Ofcom: It means that everyone has access to customer records & systems, but your ISP has to pay Openreach (a wholly owned subsidiary of BT) to come out & fix your phone as they don't have any of their own engineers.
This means that tehy'd rather hang on to their money & you do without service for weeks.
I'm really sorry, but this is an everyday occurence.

no one can actual supply you a one hundred% answer with out checking your telephone line, yet you have a difficulty with a line incoming to the abode, especially if your telephone line is obtainable in by using below the abode, as there could be injury (A tear or something, to the incoming line into the abode). telephone your provider and ask them to get the line checked, they hire it from the installer of the line, meaning the installer of the line could could study it for unfastened in any different case they unfastened their hire. so which you wont get charged :) yet while that's a fault, and the incoming cord is obtainable in below the abode, you may could desire to have yourchronic dug as much as get it repaired :/... Unfortunately, "qualitative" faults like line noise are notoriously difficult to fault-find.
