Is there an antivirus that......?

.....

- Can be put in a flash drive (For scanning a different PC)

- And can be actually be updated with newer "virus definitions" while in that flash drive?

I'm needing something like this as this was very possible in the old days of MS-DOS, so is there still any anti-virus that can still be easily copied and updated by updated data files?

The antivirus can either be freeware of commercial software. Thanks. =)

Get Avira, when downloading it chose save and save it to the flash drive once the download and the transfer is complete.

open the flash drive, double click on the installing thingy, and install AVIRA when you did open it up from the flash drive and Update it. I do this too, i know what you want... I use this to scan my other old pc cause its very slow and i also helped a friend once.

Umm... portable programs can go on your flash drive without installation. And I THINK you can just copy/paste the virus definitions in, but I've never tried before so don't take my word on that.

Programs like Thinstalled can make your programs portable.

you can put almost any anti virus on your flash drive just by putting the flash drive in your usb port then putting your anti virus software into the cd drive and install it on the flash drive by running the installation and changing the installation path.Or you can buy a SANDISK CRUSER it comes with a good software

I can name two AV's that suit to your requirements.

Avast! for portable U3 drives is an advanced antivirus with real-time protection (yep, it can be loaded from U3 drive to protect the whole PC while its active). Easily updatable, has a nice interface.

Clamwin is antivirus that resides in one single folder, can be put on non-U3 flashdrives.

There's also antispyware for U3 drives (like avast! above), by ParetoLogic. You can read my review of it here:

    http://hubpages.com/hub/Xoft-Spy-U3-Portable-anti-...

Clamwin is a free software, while avast! and XoftSpy are commercial.

There's also McAfee's antispyware for portable drives, but I didn't have a chance to test it yet.

Download and run avast cleaner from internet to clean the computers.

  • Try a online antivirus scanner and a online anti-adware/malware/spyware scanner in safe mode with network to clean up your computer BEFORE you download anything. This because the program you download can get infected.

Disable "System Restore" for Windows Me and XP, then restart your PC to clean your system restore points for viruses, spyware, adware etc.

    Now restart in safe mode.

To get in safe mode Press "F8" upon bootup.

    Select "Safe mode with Networking".

Go to Start – Run - type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html Enter(ok).

Do a full system scan. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network.

When that scan does not find anything you reboot again in safe mode with network.

Go to Start – Run – type iexplore http://www.ewido.net/en/ Enter(ok).

Do a full system scan. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network.

**NOTE: Do NOT do anything else with your computer when scanning. This because you can start virus/adware/spyware/malware manually.

When no one of these scanners are showing anything you can reboot back to normal mode.

    Turn on "System Restore".

You need to get one antivirus program, one firewall and some spyware/adware/malware removers if you don't have it.

I use Norton Internet Security (antivirus, spyware, firewall, add blocker, mail spamfilter, pop up blocker etc) Ad Aware, Spybot and more on my desktop running XP Home SP2 with Firefox and Yahoo Toolbar with pop up blocker.

On my laptop i have Ubuntu 7.04. No security needed in Linux, but i use antivirus and firewall. Firefox is standard.

I have no virus, spyware, adware, pop ups etc on my computers.

Mozilla Firefox and Opera are safer browsers to use then Internet Explorer.

    AVG Anti-spyware Free.

    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tp...

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.
