do you have the remote printing enabled in the properties of your rdp for the server? are you offsite using the server as a terminal server?
I would suspect you just need to enable printing the the properties of rdp on the server.

Any new printer you are considering should be certified for the version of Windows on the target machine to fully ensure it will work well with a Remote Desktop server. I wrote a blog post about this specific problem a while back: http://www.robertborges.us/2012/06/windows/what-pr...

you have already got a VPN from homestead to paintings, so all you like is a community printer at homestead. A community printer has it is very own IP handle which would be further to the workstation/Server at paintings, pointing back to the community printer at homestead. A community printer is a printer related to the community by making use of lan cable, not usb or parallel cable. it's going to take slightly I.T. savvy to get this working, in spite of the undeniable fact that it isn't too perplexing. you would be waiting to share the usb printer out regionally, then at paintings attempt to place in the printer by making use of the vpn, by making use of specifying the ip of your place pcprintersharename. make effective the vpn is up till now you initiate this.
