do you play guitar?
I've always wanted to play guitar and piano. I can't afford piano lessons and now I've aquired a Yamaha APX500 accoustic guitar. I know a few chords, but am curious to know a couple things:
do you play guitar and do you know of any good sites where I can get easy to understand lessons and chord charts for free?
:D
thanks
for those who directed me to "ultimate-guitar.com", I went there and yes, there are many songs, but too much black for these poor ol' eyes to take.... and I don't understand the way they lay out the chords. Although I did some more digging and found a couple more "age" friendly sites. :)
Evan, I added you as a contact. I might email you. Are you Canadian?

My father had a friend that was in the band "Bread". One day, he brought his guitar and amp to our house. I started jamming on it. I didn't know a note. My dad freaked out, but the owner of the guitar encouraged me to continue. That was almost forty years ago. Listening to "Bread" makes me almost a nauseus as listening to myself play the guitar. I have the desire, and "technique"-wise pretty good, but absolutely no talent, lol. Oh, I gave my step-son a Yamaha guitar for Xmas, and he is glued to it.
The best way I can tell you how to play guitar is this. Buy a Beatle's songbook. You know every tune, and every nuance already. It is going to be a lot easier for you to "get it"
Source(s): also, on my myspace, you will notice a Jacqui Taylor there. Sound familiar? Excellent videos to learn guitar from, although somewhat advanced, she's fun. - Anonymous1 decade ago
I play 3 instruments, two of them being piano and guitar which i self-teach.
For piano, the best self-teacher book is THE OXFORD PIANO METHOD, t.e.n f.i.n.g.e.r.s. sure it is a bit childish but it only took me an hour and a half 'till i could play a full page piece with both hands.
For Guitar and chord book will do and go on youtube to find the strumming methods. it is also easier if you start with scales on the guitar so search that up on google, then you are familiar with the notes. After that, get a book with tabs for some familiar tunes in it. i got 'The Big Acoustic Guitar Songbook' it was only $1 on ebay!

I have played for a while. It sounds like you dont have money to spare (very much like me!) so my best advice for you is to buy a program called Guitar Pro. Search it on Google. It is very cheap, but it will GREATLY improve your guitar playing. You can download song music and it will play the notes individually on your computer. It is totally fantastic and will help you teach yourself how to play popular songs in no time!
After you have aquired this, go to www.ultimate-guitar.com, There is a TONNE of songs on there and you can get music for the program i showed you. There are also a few lessons on there which will be very helpful.
Also, check out youtube, there are tonnes of helpful people who have posted videos that will definately help.
Hope this is of use to you, good luck. Guitar is hard to start of with but it WILL get easier as you go along. You have a good guitar and you will never ever look back and regret learning it!
Oh yeah, IM me if you need any specific help. I would be more than happy to give you a hand.

Ok. I used to play a little bit but I'm too vain about my nails and keep them too long so that's that. I don't know about now, but it used to be that if you bought a song book, the guitar chords were there, showing the placement on the frets. I have a couple of REALLY old books like this (because I'm REALLY old). When I was playing keyboards, I could read guitar chords from looking at them, but that was a very long time ago and more info than you really wanted. Love ya Rammie!

They are different things. Playing guitar is different than playing guitar hero. The comparison doesn't work. Some people are not as musical adept at playing instruments as others

If you prefer a cheap way to understand guitar from your home, online guitar classes really are a convenient and clear selection however for decades, Jamorama, https://tr.im/7mliH has been a front-runner in that industry, giving quality media guitar teaching that you could get to your computer.
Jamorama offers a great choice of classes and is certainly a great select for a beginning guitarist. Jamorama's video material is all in great HD quality, and their principal instructor, Mark McKenzie, does a congrats covering the fundamentals in an easy-to-understand and intuitive way.

Hi, I've followed many online guitar courses. Without a shadow of doubt the best online training course (for all levels: beginners/intermediates/advanced) is this one http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=554. It's by far the most complete online course available on earth.

Learning how to read music and play the piano is a very detailed process, and combines many different skills with the challenges of learning something new. Learn here https://tr.im/piano4all
When you are learning how to play the piano, it’s true that you require email support, but you also need a variety of other ways to have your questions answered. A well written course covers many questions, but there is no substitute for having real, live support when you are unclear on something specific to your learning curve.

I can teach you the piano; cheap cheap! I've had a terrible time switching from the violin to the guitar because of the size difference of the necks. My hands are not all that small, but it feels so awkward with the guitar -
It says free, but is anything really free?
