How can I find out what company insures my neighbors house so I can report their pit bull?
I just moved into a new rental house. I have two kids, age 2 and age 4. I have a wonderful back yard, that is fenced, unfortunately the fence is only 4 feet high. AFTER I moved in, I found out the next door neighbor has a pit bull dog that they tie to their tree out back. It does look like a reletively strong chain, but if that dog broke it and jumped the fence I know it could easily kill one of my kids. It barks and growls when we are out back. It seems like a mean dog, but the neighbors say it is nice. I really want that dog GONE, but the city I live in does not have any ordinances about dogs until AFTER they bite someone. I know homeowner insurance policies do not allow these dogs. How can I find out what company insures their house? It seems horrible of me to do this, but I am afraid of their dog.
Geez citroen, did you forget to take your prozac today? It's just a question!

I do not think what you want is public information.
Does the city know the dog is chained? Maybe you can go that route. I know it is illegal to chain a dog in California, I do not know about other states though.
Personally I would file a police report every time that dog growled. I would make sure every report has in there that you "fear for your safety" and the dog "behaves in a vicious manner". The city will start to see law suit on the wall if they failed to respond to your plight and that dog was to harm anyone.
Another avenue to try is the city planner. There may be a building code that the fence has to be 6 feet tall if it is to hold animals. It is worth a try.
Last shot is to simply call the Code Enforement officer and have him come take a look. He might be able to find a code violation in your favor. They are usually middle aged men, men with families and kids, they will try and help you.

Call the city code enforcement and animal control and humane society even if you don't think it will help. You want to be on record as having called.
Take photos. Insurance companies are not public information and many do allow all kinds of dogs anyway. If they rent they may not even have renters insurance. Look up the property tax records and call the land owner and see if the owner has a policy that could help (the land owner might could be sued if they knew about a bad dog and did nothing.
I would be scared also but the dog owner has done nothing wrong unless the dog does bite someone.

I've 2 separate studies with this, as soon as with a neighbor's puppy and as soon as with our possess pit. In 1990, whilst babysitting my eight 12 months ancient niece in North Minneapolis, a neighbor puppy from around the alley received free and got here into my unfenced backyard. The puppy used to be foaming on the mouth and performing aggressively. I positioned my niece in the back of me and sponsored the entire approach around the backyard & into the condominium. When I referred to as animal manipulate, they mentioned I would shoot the puppy if it used to be on my estate. As lengthy because it died on my estate I could be inside my rights. I learned later that this puppy (a black lab) had bitten 2 persons earlier and could be positioned down if police officers discovered it roaming once more. The puppy did get out once more, and my husband used to be chased through it. The house owners needed to have a 6-foot, padlocked kennel after that. We reside in a township approximately forty miles north of Minneapolis now. Last 12 months our possess pit bull jumped the fence at some point (and she or he's very timid and soft), and our new neighbor who's petrified of pits when you consider that of the breed's fame on my own referred to as the police officers. She did not even harrass someone - and we had been fined $a hundred and twenty and needed to submit a 6" fence or our puppy could be positioned down through the police. I bet it is dependent upon wherein you reside, I could for my part move to town and appear into the regional ordinances if I had been you. If the police officers may not aid you, take a look at animal manipulate.

Tell him you are looking for rental insurance and wanted to know which homeowners insurance he has. You could even says your parents are paying for the insurance so you need to get some information on insurances. But this is lieing so next ask God to please be understanding. Good luck.

Simple call the animal control and talk to the police department and between the two problem handled.
