Fishing in Anchorage, AK???
I'm going to Homer AK next week to fish for salmon but i'm staying for two days in Anchorage. Are there fishing opportunities near the city? Not fly out trips or anything but maybe lakes or rivers where i could fish on my own? Thanks for your help

Not sure if the Kings are running, but Ship Creek, runs through the northern part of Anchorage, you will get to experience combat fishing. If the Kings are running, then that would be a good place to go.
On Elmendorf AFB, you could fish for trout in the lakes, they are small, but fun to catch.
I fished the lakes all the time, a friend of mine and I caught over a hundred in a day.
As far as Ship Creek, its also fun, but you will need chest waders to get through some of the areas.
On your way to Homer, stop and fish the Russian River, its crystal clear and awesome to fish. It empties into the Kenai River, and where they meet its awesome for fishing. If the salmon are running, you will experience combat fishing there too, but where my friends and I would go, we would cross the river and fish the island. It was a little slower paced, and you still could catch your limit.
Oh, if your not sure what combat fishing is, you are standing elbow to elbow with people, and fish. Its very tricky, and people will actually cut your line just to get you out of the way, but you will love it.

George gave you a good answer. But the kings are not running much yet. And when he said combat fishing he was right. The rivers there have people lined up shoulder to shoulder when the salmon are there. Some rivers to consider are the, Little Susitna River, Deshka River and Talkeetna River. All have trout as well as salmon. So you can go for the trout if the salmon are not running much.
