Home Audio Help?

Okay, so I know a bit about electronics, but there are to many things that i dont want to get wrong on this. I want a 5.1 Home Audio system. I have looked at onkyo, yamaha and sony. I have a Dvd player (PS3) so I dont need the reciever to play dvd's it just needs to put out amazing sound. Also the PS3 uses an hdmi cable. do i need an hdmi cable hookup on the reciever? or is there another way to put video and audio to the reciever that is better? here are some links of systems i was looking at, http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=HT-S3100&class... , http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8743... , http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8457... Which is the best bargain or does anyone know of a better set up for me?

You want to listen to them. I've notice that the theater in a box packages will tend to skimp on the speakers, so that's why you want to listen. Quite often the receivers are good in them though if it's from a name brand and not one of those puny jobs.

I have an Onkyo theater in a box that's 4 years old. Never had a problem with it. It's a nice receiver. I wish the speakers were better, but at the time, they were better than others similarly priced and my budget wasn't that big.

My friends swear by Yamaha and have good luck with them as well.

I've had problems with Sony products before, so I just stay away from them. Maybe I've just had bad luck though?

If you look on amazon, you'll find that Onkyo for about $282.31, in black. They also have a Polk 5.1 speaker system, RM 6750, usually $600, for 226.08, and those are likely to be better speakers than what the Onkyo combo has. Pair those up with a low cost HT receiver, an TX-SR304, for around $152.58, for a silver one, and that could work, as well.

ide say go for the onkyo because it seems to be the best quality system and has hdmi for the ps3, should put out awesome sound, they have a good reputation, however i would stay from sony, they make great tv's but their audio department is aweful, i have never had good sound from any sony reciever or speakers ever, i have tried multiple sony systems and found them all to be inferior, i also own a sony surround system and it is a sad excuse for a sound system

Sonys are GREAT.....if you are looking for a boat anchor! Onkyo are nice but I'd choose the Yamaha. Yamaha makes sound. They make guitars, drums, studio monitors, key boards. Their amps have been compared to old Carver amps. They make solid units for a mass production company.

As far as the connections go. The PS3 is connected to the receiver with the HDMI cable then the receiver is connected to your tv with HDMI too.

For feeding song to the audio gadget, comparable stuff. for paying for power to the amps, must be a lot larger by using fact of decrease voltage. And in the past you waste a super form of money blowing out your ears, making it annoying to concentration on site visitors, and stressful the heck out of your friends, why not in basic terms positioned on earphones as a substitute of bobbing up a wheeled growth container?

there are a few good brands out there - but it does depend on price also - how much are you willing to spend etc. ?

also do you want the AVR to decode the latest audio formats like True HD and DTS MA audio that are on most blu ray discs -

because if you do want to take advantage of those audio formats - you need to get a AVR that can decode them - or a blu ray player that decodes them before sending it to the AVR --

you may like to check out Denon 3808 also - i have the marantz 7002 and love the sound - its built solid and has a 3 year warranty -
