To save you from future trouble I will have to say that if you have not have previouse experience with reptiles for you to not get a chameleon. They die very easily from fear. There is always a good chance of them dieng in the transition to your new home. But there are many other great lozards that they have at petco or petsmart. I would recomend a Bearded dragon a chinese water dragon or a lepard gecko. They will each make a great loving pet that you will enjoy. Good luck!

DO NOT buy a chameleon from a petco or petsmart. If either does have a chameleon, they keep them in glass cages which is not good for a cham. They need to be in a screen cage and keeping the in a glass cage can stress them out or kill them. Cham's are also very difficult to take care and aren't good beginner lizards as the person above said. I wouldn't buy a lizard from those stores anyway. They have people taking care of reptiles that are just avg joes off the street that don't know what they're doing. I've seen some bad stuff in stores like that which really upsets me. I would suggest going to a local exotics pet store, not a chain store.

Yes, petco and petsmart sell chameleons
But you need to do A LOT of research before you consider getting one.
Chameleons are pretty hard to set up properly and to keep happy. You also can't handle chameleons. Trying to handle a chameleon will cause it to become VERY stressed. That type of stress KILLS. You can handle your chameleon, and by the next day, he might be dead. They also need very large enclosures, many plants and things to climb on, and exact humidity and temperature. If you do not do every thing exactly right for chameleons, they become sick and things go downhill very quickly. They are only to be kept by experienced reptile keepers
If you want a "cool" lizard that you can handle, get something like a gecko, or another small lizard. Make sure you do your research though. You want to be 100% prepared for your new pet, and know everything you need BEFORE you get it. That way you know he/she will be getting the best care possible

some do and some dont. most of them carry reptiles
but im not quite sure about chameleons. just check out your local ones and find out for yourself. .or you could even look through the phone book and find a local pet shop that specializes in reptiles, their more likely to have them the reptiles there and more likely to be healthier there.
BUT- if your a new reptile owner you should probably start with something simpler. Chameleons are a bit harder to take care of compared to other reptiles and they dont like being handled very much. So their basically decoration thats difficult to maintain. If your a new reptile owner, you should start with more social, easier to take care of reptiles. If you decide you want a snake you should go for a ball python, corn snake, or milk snake. If you have your heart set on a lizard so should try a bearded dragon, or a leopeard gecko.
Sorry for leaving such a long message ;)
hope this helped :o)

It really varies from each individual store. The last time I was at my petco they did in fact have chameleons. I suggest you go up and take a look at what your local petco/petsmart has. You may even find something other than a chameleon that you like even better. Just make sure you buy everything it needs and set up the habitat BEFORE you buy the actual pet.

I would not recommended a chameleon or buying any reptile from either store.
Chameleons are very hard to care for, and die fairly easy and thats not good since they are pretty pricey.
Both petsmart and petco are known for not taking care of their animals and selling sick ones. most people who work at these stores don't know anything about reptiles but a lot of them pretend to so they can sell the animal.
Some people think that by buying an animal from them it is rescuing the animal but in reality they are supporting the store and allowing them to continue treat animals badly. So they save one while the rest suffer and support the store so they can continue.
If you want an animal in good condition I would suggest going to a small local pet store, a breeder or a reptile show/expo in your area.

I would suggest getting a leopard gecko, bearded dragon, or a green anole if this is your first lizard.
Good luck! I hope this has helped you out some.

I don't know about Petsmart, but Petco usually has reptiles, but the selection seems to change. I would recommend finding a reptile expo in your area. Research possible pets, then find what you want there. The prices are low, you can talk to the breeders, and pick out a healthy looking animal.

Do NOT get a cham from a pet store. Not only will they be severely over-priced, you don't know if they'll even be in good condition. Find your nearest reptile show and get on there. You will be able to talk to a BREEDER and get one that has been properly cared for its whole life.
You will pay upwards of $80 at Petco and only about $25 at a show... and you will get much better quality at a show, get to meet the breeder and find out how they have been cared for. It is a much better option for chams. Otherwise, you may want to consider finding a breeder online.
Either way, check the website below and you'll find classifieds and show listings.
