Why do shops still Sell Ni-Cd batteries? (UK/EU)?
it became illegal on 1 St January 2008 for makers to produce rechargeable items with Ni-CD batteries and illegal for them to be sold from 26th September 2008.
Yet many shops don't know about this or tell you the items contain NiCd eve though they are supposed to bring this to your attention from 1st January.
I know they have to clear stock but not telling you is surely unethical.
For those who don't know NiCd batteries are very toxic and can't be toped up on charge otherwise they die!
Replacements NiMH, Li-ION etc have been around for a decade and they still ship these nasty items in products!

Like a lot of stupid laws in the UK.
It will be illegal to sell tham after a particular date but not illegal to use them - therein lies the problem.
Same with certain 'add - on' car parts - not illegal to sell them BUT totally illegal to use them
