Hi,
Does the bird have some feathers starting to open up? Or is it all skin?
If it has feathers starting to open up, it is probably a fledgling. Fledglings stay on the ground or in low branches and bushes for around 3-4 days while they get enough strength to fly. The parents come back to feed them!
OVER and over, people think they are helping baby birds, but really you are NOT! If anyone finds a bird with feathers opening up, LEAVE it alone! The parents are helping it to learn to fly!!!! THEY are feeding it, and trying to encourage it to fly!
If it is all skin, most birds are born WITHOUT any feathers it is a hatchling. You will need to hand fed it with formula for parrots, most pet stores now carry it. You can do it with a wide ended syringe. You need to feel down the front of its neck where the breastbone meets, this is where the crop is. YOU cannot over fill the crop, they will NOT process their food and they get moldy crop and die. MAKE certain to follow the directions for mixing the food on the container, and also they like it warm, NOT hot!
It will be afraid and messy the first few feedings, hope all goes well for you!
KEEP your eye on him if he is a fledgling, because it is NOT uncommon for the weakest one to be kicked out of the nest. WITHOUT your help, he will die.
GOOD luck!
