Check the lease first - did you save a copy? I hope so...

What does the lease require? Usually it will be something about leaving the premises clean, tidy, and neat. All garbage must be hauled away, all damage beyond normal wear and tear repaired, etc. But the lease is the document that spells out what you have to do.

If you do any cleaning, be sure to save receipts for supplies and services. It wouldn't hurt to take pictures if you want, to show that you've actually done the work.

You know what. I have rented my whole life and I have been lucky because my apartments have been left in a decent manner. But even if you do this your landlord has to be honest enough to want to give it back. I know people that have left the place better than when they found it and the landlord makes us some BS about this damage or that damage or how they had to clean for 12 hours so that is what they are charging you for their cleaning "service". It all depends on the landlord sometimes. Good Luck

make sure you owe no rent and that the property is as it was when you took on the tenancy, give and take "wear and tear". check the inventory and make sure everything on it is still present and correct. Have the carpets cleaned professionally and show a receipt to the landlord when you return the keys.

Make sure the flat is in better condition when you leave, than it was in when you moved in.
