You can't buy the motherboard separately. However, you can buy a bricked PS3 on ebay (even bricked ones arent cheap) or craigslist, and use that unit for parts. Just make sure the motherboard is in good working order and that the unit failed for other reasons.

The motherboard for the PS3 will either be designed and made by Sony itself or by whoever sony contracted to make the motherboard exclusively for sony. No one else is likely to touch that motherboard because the design and what not will likely be copyrighted to sony and they will want to make sure no one duplicates it and brings out a cheaper generic console that plays ps3 disc. you could: 1) see if it is covered under warranty 2) see how much sony would charge to fix it( if they would) 3) buy a new one
