One way to find good, authentic sounding names is to watch movie credits. There are hundreds of names rolling by, and they aren't in alphabetical order for the most part, so they don't get monotonous (like reading a phone book would).

Also, I personally don't start with names. I just start writing, and sometimes I even just leave blanks where the names would go. Eventually as I am writing, the name comes on it's own.

I think it's more authentic that way, and then the character doesn't turn into what I want it to be (ie: doesn't develop traits that I think would be appropriate for a "Samantha" or a "Reginald", or whatever). Instead, the character creates it's own name, and it's usually perfect.

i always thought of Noah or Michael as a very masculine name. dont ask me why, though cause my little brothers name is michael and he is puny. anyway, for a girl maybe Ally cause thats really pretty or destiny
