    No, seriously. You're question is rather vague, so I'm going to assume you want to know why art exists.

    My Grandpa was the same way.

    Look around you. What do you see. Unless you live naked in the middle of the woods, chances are there's art around you. And I'm not talking about on the walls. Everything that you sit on, wear, write on, eat, or even use for entertainment started out as a concept inside someone's head.

    It went from concept, to paper, then a technical sketch (for architecture and furniture, to 3D (other than food) and then finally to what you see.

    If you were talking as an artist about what the basic elements of design are, well; line, shape, direction, size, texture (implied or real), color, value. The principles of design are: balance, repetition, contrast, harmony, unity.
