Is it a good thing the Suns got new assistant coaches along with a new head coach after D'antoni left?

Many of those coaches have served under great coaches, including Phil Jackson and Larry Brown. It sucks that Barbosa's mentor, Dan D'antoni left, but I guess it will be fine.

Assistant coaches are generally the same type of X's and O's the head coach is.

If you agree with that point then hiring any asst coach from DanT's staff would be like hiring the student to take the job of the teacher and keeping them on with a new coach moving in a different direction would be foolish.

There would not have been a reason to let go DanT if you were going to run the same O and D.

I suspect you will see a more half court O using Shaq, then run and gun and outscore the other team.

Personally I think the Suns were pretty damn close and with a little tweaking had a championship team. I never saw old man Shaq with his huge salary cap hit, helping.

Def needed help for Amare but Shaq is too old slow and can't run or make free throws. Never thought it was a good fit.

Now I suspect the team will try and be more balanced using him in the O. Don't see that as being wise at this point in his career or it helping the Suns. But let's face it. You have to pay this guy through the nose so you almost HAVE to use him to justify his check.

I think DanT and the rest of the coaches were made the scapegoats for what has turned into a very bad trade.

I'm a Rockets fan and I know the feeling when you have a player like Yao who while is a great player is never going to be called fleet of foot. You also won't move him. So every coach will be saddled with having to deal with that. IMO Yao in the East could be a monster. In the West where you have gazelles on every team he just gets ran out of the building.

Its the same you will deal with in Shaq until he retires. The Sun's watch the salary cap very closely. This was an all or nothing move that didn't pan out.

Don't feel to bad for the coaches. the Sun's will release them and they'll have jobs in the recycle coach league called the NBA.

Yes it's a good thing to bring in new coaches becuase who knows if the assistans already there will get along with Porter. That's the most important thing it doesn't matter if they have built a relationship with the players already on the Suns it matters if the coach gets along with his assistants.

Dan D'Antoni a mentor for Barbosa? What did he do with Barbosa to make him a great player? Barbosa is only about offense. He has no defensive presence whatsoever. Maybe with new coaches they'll be able to get through to him that being a superior player means actually trying on defense.

We'll just have to wait and see, the coaches could end up like a new expansion team and fail miserablly or they could gell like the Celtics and just maybe go all the way.

i think they'll have the same record they would of had with him and they'll be fighting along with a few other west teams for a playoff spot
