Can I keep my number?
My cellphone from At&t is a prepaid Sony Ericsson Walkman W580i. It has recently had some technical difficulties so I am exchanging it for a new one. When I get the new phone is it possible for me to keep my old phone's number?

yes, you will keep your number. With prepay, you will only lose your number if you go 60 days or more with out a balance...at which point you must new service.

It is a direct exchange since you did not terminate your contract. They will not really do much under your account except place your old SIM Card into your new phone. If your SIM card needs to be replaced, they will do that and attach the new SIM Card to your old account. No problems, it should be a simple exchange.

Yes, there was a law passed that entitles everyone in the US to number portability, even if you change cell phone companies.

If its prepaid I don't think you can keep your old phone number. But if its through AT&T it might be different, just talk to them and ask.

I've heard that with pre-paids you have to get a new number. Not sure about that, though. Call AT&T customer service and ask.
