No because the eye can see distant galaxies trillions of miles away. I believe that the longest sound transmission was the explosion of the volcano Krakatoa which was heard over 1000 miles away in Australia

The question is too subjective. Everyone has different capacity to see and to hear. Let's forget for a moment seeing the sun and other stars, or hearing a sonic boom. But put 100 people in a closed environment, measure the ability of each to see and to hear some specific thing or sound from which every individual is equidistant, and you will probably learn that each person's statictics are different than every other's. Some can see with greater accuracy, while others can hear with more discerning acuity. This totally subjective question cannot be answered with a single objective answer with any degree of certainty.

Certainly -- underwater! Water can conduct sound for miles, so you can hear things farther away than you could through the air. As far as seeing, however, water absorbs light pretty quickly, even if it's clear, so you are not able to see nearly as far as you can through the air.

I don't know about you, but I cannot hear the International Space Station - I have seen it. I can't hear what the people are talking about 2 blocks down the street, but I can see them....
