Whats up with my vista computer?
Right just turned it on today and for some reason my screen was black but my documents was up. I has no desktop background,Windows start bar or desktop icons. I have system restored it and nothing happens. I recently went into task manager and tryped explorer.exe, and everything came back. The only problem is everytime i turn on my computer i have to do this so something cant be right. Ive had no problems with it and im doing a system scan as i speak, is there a setting i need to change to make the explorer.exe start up when i turn on the computer?
I have a dell dimension c521, windows vista ultimate, 1.5 gb ram.
My ram is fine vista works really quickly

Try creating a new user and logging in as that user.
If the problem does not happen with the new user account, the problem is in the first user's profile. Just reboot, then rename that profile (from something like "David" to "David.bad", then recreate that (David) account, and then move all the docs (but not registry settings, etc!) out of the old ".bad" directory into the new.
If the problem continues with the new user account you created, it's a more serious Windows issue, and could be anything from a failing hard drive to an infected system to a corrupt registry to a corrupt system file. The quickest fix would be to reinstall Vista (except that might wipe out your documents - you do make good backups regularly, right? 'Cause your machine will fail at some point and you will lose all your precious data if you don't have a backup; it's not a matter of IF your machine crashes, but WHEN).
My gut feeling is that you've gotten an infection/corruption. Googling for your symptoms may turn up a solution, but I bet you're going to have to reinstall Vista.

This also happened to me. Vista is JUST AWFUL...
MANY STEPS BACKWORDS IN THIS OS...
still..if you can ensure that your surge protector is strong
enough NOT to let any voltage get through in a storm
AND MAKE SURE YOU EMPTY TEMP FILES every day
it should be easier to maintain.
I like REGISTRY DEFENDER (about 30 bucks) because
it is the ONLY Security System that has been working well
with VISTA OS so far...empties files automatically and
fixes errors daily. Since installing this I have no problems.

The best thing I can tell you is to click on APPLY before you click OK and close the program.
If you DON'T have Vista Ultimate SP1, you are going to experience a BUNCH of problems including crashes, file loss, and viruses.
I recommend downgrading Ultimate to XP SP3. I know it's a big difference, but you should before the problems happen. They could happen anytime.
If you don't want to downgrade, then I recommend making a BACKUP disk of ALL of your files, folders, music, pics, videos, etc. (Make sure you get a disk that can hold 4-6 gb)
Good luck :)

you may have a trojan zlob messing with you, you should run a scan with your antivirus and spyware software, not at the same time actually. spybot is good for getting rid of those things you may want to give it a try.
THE PROBLEM IS NOT VISTA, I HAVE IT AND HAVE NO TROUBLE AT ALL.
