What is the weather like in Chicago in August?

Hot & muggy. Hi temps in 90's, Nightly lows in high 70's. Rain possible, cools things off temporarily, but contributes to the mugginess.

Yes, Chicago is usually the hottest in August that it is all year. This year has been odd though, it has been cooler and more rainy than usual.

I would normally expect it to be 85-95 degrees and very humid in Chicago in August, but in June it has been about 70 degrees on average. So it may be good to bring a light jacket and an umbrella when you come to Chicago.

Hot. Upper 80's, maybe even the 90's, with considerable humidity. It cools down at night into the 70's. Shorts and a shirt would be fine on most any day; you might also need a raincoat as it tends to rain in August.

You may not want to hear it, but the answer, as others have said, is "hot". That's the only way to describe it. It gets humid and muggy and the lighter the clothes, the better. Wear capris if you want, shorts, etc. Just know that it will be hot.
