Does having Bynum back solve the lakers problems?

A great deal of lakers fans feel that just having bynum back makes the lakers the best team in the nba .....as a laker fan I disagree .....bynum is coming back from a serious knee injury and along with learning how to play with gasol he has to work himself back into gm shape, buy his return does not make odom/gasol into tough physical players or make their hearts any stronger ......lakers are in need of a legit sf that has an impact on both sides of the court and a role player that bangs and competes on the glass..........bynum is still learning the gm and helps to have him back but it does'nt make the lakers into a great defensive team and thats their biggest flaw.

Update:

Think big picture the lakers run the triangle which is an offense based on movement and spacing.......how much spacing will they have with 2 7fts and a 6'10 sf that cant shoot well enough to stop teams from loading up on the big men.....and what about defense ...odom is a below avg defender as is gasol throw in bynum and while your long up front your also slow up front ......1 more thing odom played the 3 spot his 1st 3 years as a laker and he put up the same numbers as he did playing the 4 ......he is what he is a very good player but theres nothing great about his gm and good is not enough at 14 mil a year.

it solves most of their problems, at least he can rebound and defend post players. Did you miss the part when KG toasted Pau and Odom.

    What up MoBetter,

i think the finals exposed a weakness for the Lakers. And while before the series i would have thought that having Bynum was the difference in the series - he might have been enough and the Lakers maybe could have won in 7 games- but the bottom line is we didn't know that Gasol and Odom would be as soft as they were.

If Bynum returns to his pre-injury status and if he continues to progress we all agree that he can be one of the best Centers in this league. There have been a lot of rumors about the Lakers shopping Odom around for: Artest, Marion, or Richard Jeffrson - all consistent scorers and better defenders than Odom (even though we lose some rebounding- except for Marion).

Adding another defender on the perimeter like an Artest or Marion would definitely help the Lakers. Along with a healthy Bynum.

i think we also need to re-sign Roni Turiaf and Sasha Vujacic.

It doesn't automatically make them the best, but it helps their problem of having a soft center. IF Bynum starts training hard again and works his game up, then the Lakers will have a solid post up player than can take a beating and dish one out too. He was 20 when he got injured, so he has an enormous amount of potential, and seeing his team lose in the Finals has got to spark a fire in him to help his team out.

However, LA still needs to work on a little thing called defense. I don't know how well Bynum will be able to defend, but that team still has many players that let others pass by them without a second look. Maybe Bynum will be a key in their defense, but the Lakers need to shape up their defensive game whether or not Bynum is on the court. If they would have done that this year, they would have been in much better shape already.

Bynum should be fine coming back. He's going to be jogging sometime in July and will get back to start next season. His injury wasn't too serious. I know that's hard to believe, but basically no bones were broken and no ligaments were torn. All that happened was that his bone was bruised and wouldn't stop leaking fluid. The surgery he had wasn't even that serious, just arthroscopic surgery. It's the same thing Kobe had in Colorado. Nothing that'll hurt a player's athleticism.

As far as Bynum solving the Laker's problems, he solves the most glaring problems for them right now. Interior toughness, interior rebounding, and shotblocking/anchoring. Drew coming back also improves basic team chemistry by allowing Pau to move back to his natural position at PF. The Laker's still have holes as SF offensively and defensively, and some issues at PG defensively against quicker guards like Paul. However, those problems are minimilized with Bynum and Gasol protecting the paint and scoring inside as a Twin-Tower tandem.

True but by the time the next playoffs start, Bynum should be back to his good self. No matter what Bynum does, it still gives their defense a big boost while also providing more offense. With the return of Bynum, Odom and Pau go to their preferred positions and we can see a more efficient team. I believe Bynum might not solve all the problems but he can solve most of them. Hopefully this will result in another Finals appearance... and a win

i think not having bynum changes the lakers for better trading odom does because bynum should offensively be option 3 not odom and kobe plus a frontcour of bynum and gasol could be to much for teams trading odom for a battier, tayshuan prince type defender would be devasting kobe and another great defender in the backcourt aand gasol and bynum in the back i think would be more of a championship caliber team trading odom for marion makings most sense since he can slide to the 4 if pau get's scared again

no. They need to upload some of the dead weight like Radmonivich and Mimh. Vulajic needs to be more consistent in his shooting and work on his defense. Ray Allen is much older than he is and blew by him. Gasol needs to bulk up and adjust his game to match the NBA's more physical play. Plus, LO could be a more offensive mind and attack the basketball the whole game and not just in the first half.

If they could get a player like Ron Artest, they would be much better.

I do not think having andrew back makes us a whole lot better, lamar and pau are soft, lamar especially game 6 he decided to start scoring fourth quarter down by thirty boston has emptied the bench: pathetic, they don't have the heart of champions but other than defense, small forward is our biggest problem, lets face it vladamir is not getting it done, we should trade him for ron artest, a solid defender and an outlet scorer for kobe, mitch make it happen.

Bynums surgery was not serious. the same one Kobe had two off-seasons ago. I think it solve a lot of there problems. One is that the stupidest player in the NBA(Radmanovic) doesnt need to start.

It's gona depend how phil uses his lineup. They can be very versatile if Odom stays with the team.
