Most hotel booking sites will allow you to choose your dates and see what's available -- and then sort those results by price.
Head over to http://www.resideo.com/us/indiana/indianapolis/ and click the "Check Availability" link. Choose your dates, submit the form, then sort by price -- that'll put the cheapest places first.
You can then read up on each one that's in your price range (the 'overview' text will usually tell you about amenities, such as breakfast), and then you can book right online.
I did a quote for early August, and the cheapest place is $45 a night. It's an America's Best near the airport, and the have free breakfast!

I go to Indy quite a bit on business or for pleasure. When I do go I stay on the NW side (it's usually referred to as "The Pyramids). It's a nice area and the hotels are significantly cheaper than downtown or the airport. You can get many nice hotels like The Comfort Inn & Suites, Days Inn or Homestead Suites just off of Michigan Road for around $60 - $70 per night and that includes a continental breakfast. Go to www.indy.org (this is the Indianapolis visitor's and convention bureau) and type in dates of your vacation under "Hot Hotel Deals" then click on "Find Deals". That will take you to the next page where you can narrow your search by area. Click on the dropdown window that says "Choose City Area" and highlight the area you want (ie Northwest, Midtown, downtown). I've used that website numerous times to book a hotel room and have always found a better deal there than on the hotel website. Best of luck to you and have a great time in Indy!

Here is a list of hotels that you can view with their starting prices. It also shows the hotel rating. Try to pick a hotel that is cheap but has a better rating than another hotel with the same price. Good luck on your trip! These hotel prices can be expensive but it doesn't see too bad in this city.

Try hotels on South Port Road, that is a busy area and has a lot of hotels. We stayed at Lee's Inn which is a little farther south, it was very nice. It wasn't too bad, about $60 per night.

You will be stuck paying the Colts extortion tax wherever you stay in or around Indianapolis.
