Booting from NAS or otherwise networked Hard-drive?

How do you set up 2 PC's to boot from a single hard drive?

I wanted to try using a NAS hard drive and just network the two PCs like a mini-server.

I think you would need a little more then over the counter NAS hardware, there is a method called PXE boot that would allow the computers to boot from a networked device. But getting that to work with 1 image for 2 computers would require the computer be EXACTLY the same, you best bet would be to have seperate images for each system. but even then PXE is kind of complicated to setup unless it is already built into your NAS device.

If you wanna try i would suggest researching Network booking with PXE.

other then that network storage is good for backup and sharing data to everyone at a location but the network transfer rate compared to the rate of IDE or SATA is significantly slower. booting from such a device would be too slow to be worth it. well that is my 2 cents. let me know what you find out
