some ridiculous "causes" of homosexuality?

Well, I've heard some people say:

*if young boys don't have any young male friends to play with, but instead, they've got loads of girls instead...they turn gay cause being with girls change his mind into a girly mind, thus turning him gay.

*if you read too much of fairy tales, you turn gay.

*If your mum teases you a lot, beats you very hard and abuses you, you begin to hate women and so, become gay.....it's the father, in case of lesbians.

*If you (boys) listen to too much of Pop music, you become gay because they are only meant for girls. If you (girls) like too much of Rock and rap music, you become a lesbian because they are all boyish things.

*Your partner cheated on you, so you are attracted to the same sex (so why don't gay people turn straight when their partners cheat on them?)

*Gay parents always raise gay children.

There are a lot more ridiculous reasons to add if you want a complete list, but it's worthless because all these causes are pathetic and are simply ignorant.

Why waste time thinking about them...homosexuality isn't a disease. No one wants to be gay, but gay people exist.

Believe me, over here, each day, people would make up a new "REASON/CAUSE" for homosexuality....and all I can do is laugh at them.

Okay, now it's time to counter all those ridiculous causes.

-I was not molested by either sex.

-I had the opportunity to have an affair with the opposite sex (she had feelings for me, but I didn't..I could have taken the advantage!)

-Hmmm...some people wonder why I do not even touch milk.

-Well, over here, expectant mom's are very health conscious...and so was my mum when she was carrying me.

-My dad is a smoker...not heavy smoker...my mum won't even touch a cigarette.

-Deficiency? My foot!

-Well, my dad used to work in a different country when I was born and until I was 12 when I finally moved to the other country with him. I guess that makes me gay...lol

-I always like to wear comfy clothes, and underwear should be comfortable, so they were never tight.

-My parents are still together, and will.

-I am growing up along with my mum and dad.

-The opposite sex never disappointed me...girls and I get along great.

-Why would the overpopulation of the earth affect me?

-I would never stay near any kind of porn, because they make me feel sick...self respecting person would never become a porn star.

-I was never bullied at school for any reason.

-(lol) I would never get fed up with girls...they are great companions.

-Well, I never played Volleyball either.

-I do not wear pink or own pink clothes.

I guess the people who made up these ridiculous "causes" should have a look at my answer.

Lol, after all of these, I am gay!

Some people are really ignorant...I'm afraid, THAT is a disease and there is no cure for it.

You gave very good examples of "ridiculous causes", but one thing that was not mentioned are the "religious" causes: that homosexuality is an "evil spirit" that needs to be exorcised and if we "prayed really hard enough", we can be "cured". (And because we are not attracted to the opposite sex even after the "exorcism", then religion says that we must be "celibate", as some are supposedly "called" to celibacy. Which is really forcing someone to do something they don't want to do...celibacy should be a conscious personal decision, not something you "must" do, out of "no choice".)

And the other "religious" reason is that we "choose to sin", or "live an abominable lifestyle", because we are willfully "turning away from God".

If you place those two religious "reasons" together, they don't make sense - in fact, they are in complete opposition. If I am "possessed", then I can't be held accountable for my actions, "something" drove me to do "gay acts", and in that case, I shouldn't be considered a "sinner", since I wasn't "in control". But if I "willfully" chose to "sin", then are they saying that the religious people who say that it is an "evil spirit" are liars?

In fact, looking at your list, the reasons often contradict each other: either we were molested by the same sex, or the opposite sex; either we enjoyed too much gay porn, or enjoyed too much straight porn. What this tells me is, anyone can rationalize anything, even if it seems that the reasons are in complete contradiction to each other! The fact that there isn't a single consensus about all of these "causes" further underscores how ridiculous it is to find for them!

Besides, since statistically there are more straight people, wouldn't it be of best interest to the majority that we find out what "causes" heterosexuality? After all, more people would be affected by the answers to that research question (90% of the world, in fact, if the statistics are still true that 10% of the any population is gay...but then there are lots of posts here that say we are merely 1 to 2% only...David, what is the latest research showing regarding our population vis-a-vis the straight population?)

Loved the "reason" of early divorce as the cause: if that was true, then should half of these marriages produce gay children? Which would again contradict that 1 to 2% statistic...Dang it! I can't get off the Ferris Wheel!!!

You have to thank your room mate, for making his mental health something you are now concerned about. Carving opinions in granite is not healthy thinking. Writing them in sand, allows for growth and future understanding. He is the poster boy for intolerance. His lack of understanding shows more about him than about the topic. You must consider his locked opinion as a sign of his lack of empathy. You should explore this semi sociopaths mind. You'll find more ridiculous examples of his iron clad thoughts over time. One thing to look into is his sexuality. If he took a "don't ask don't tell" approach. We could let him slide. But he has gone way too far, not to be hiding something from you. Is he putting up a smoke screen ? So you would think he couldn't be gay ? Not after all he said. He has attacked as strongly as a person might do, to defend themselves. Try to change clothes in front of him. If he leaves or gets weird, he's hiding something. It he politely minds his own business. Not looking but focused on something else. We could give him the benefit of the doubt. Not gay just narrow minded. A limited mind avoids what it can't understand. Learning to understand would require thought. It's easier for them to attack what they don't understand. Than to open up and think clearly. If you try to discuss and they dictate their one sided doctrine. It's a self contained absolute truth to them. Your never going to help him, so keep notes and wait for his head to explode.

One may have a tiny shred of truth, although it reverses the cause and effect.

In regards to "Absent or emotionally distant fathers" Dr. Richard A. Isay stated in his book "Becoming Gay" that "Fathers especially may have reacted with aloofness and distance when ... observed their sons behaving in ways viewed as effeminate."

It is not that the son becomes gay because of the emotionally distant father, but that the father becomes emotionally distant because of the gay son.

The rest of the excuses that others have come up with as a causation of homosexuality usually do not even have the tiniest bit of truth to validate them.

As usual you have presented a thorough list of what some people actually believe to be the cause of homosexuality. I for one can't think of anything to add to this compilation.

Sad really how some people can be so ignorant or who accept unfounded theories that come there way without thinking it out.

When they were infants, a straight person picked them up and the demon of heterosexuality entered their body.

You cannot "prevent" being gay. Your son is six years old, do you love him? If yes, then you should ALWAYS love him, no matter if he is straight, gay, bi or transgendered. He will always be your son (or if hes transgendered, daughter) But he will always be your child. You should always love your children, no matter who they become.

Edit! We do not "Become" gay, bi, transgendered. We are born gay. Nothing can *cause* people to *turn* gay.

I heard someone mention that being attracted to members of the same sex 'causes' homosexuality...what a load of hogwash! ; )
