I am a Hellenic polytheist, meaning that I honor the Olympian gods and I know that they exist.

Do I believe that the stories of say, Hercules are actually, literally true? No, but I believe that the foundations are there.

    EDIT:

I have to correct the answerer above. The Roman and Greek gods *were* the same. The Romans were the survivors of Troy and the Trojans and the Greeks worshiped the same gods. That's *why* the Greek armies were in such trouble, when they sacked Troy, they desecrated the Trojan temples - and they were to the same gods.

Needless to say Apollo, Athena and the rest were pretty unhappy with both at that point.

No! But they are really interesting stories, and the characters are represented repeatedly in the literature and movies of our culture. Romeo and Juliet -- Pyramus and Thisbe. I could go on and on, but I won't. you get the picture. But, they did not exist, except in the minds of the Greeks. The Romans were jealous of the incredible stories they heard from the Greeks that they created their own gods, who, ironically, had many of the same powers!

If you study a little bit, you will find that there is, in most cultures, some form of mythology. Makes for interesting studying!

It's easier to believe than the Christian mythology, it is far older and original to a point, whereas the the Christians basically stole their mythology from at least 10 different religions which outdate them by thousands of years...

I worship Odinn and follow the Norse pantheon, so the Greek is not too hard to relate to in my opinion...

Although i am from Greece and i really like the Greek Mythology, i do not believe in the ancient Greek gods and i do not worship them.

I like all the stories about goddess Artemis and my house it's not far away from her most sacred ancient temple in Greece.

    But i don't worship her.

  • I believe that the creatures are going to be here in the near future, with genetic engineering. But as for now, nah. I see the Greek gods as historical figures that shaped Greek society, but I don't worship them.
