Should I try to match up my preamp and amp?

Should they be same brand name, same era, same price range? Or what would you think of an Adcom GFP-565 preamp with a Rotel RB-980 amp?

I owned a number of amps and pre-amps from both ADCOM and Rotel - and they worked together fine, in any combination.

As a matter of fact, I never had ay problems with any preamps (I owned Krell, Linn, Halcro, Melos, among others) working with any amp (Krell, VTL, PASS).

And you can mix tubes with solid state too...

As the kids say, its all good. As long as they have the usual inputs and outputs, you're good to go.

I have a Carver C-4000 pre-amp running with a Hafler 200 power amp, now for 16 years, and they're just fine.

One of the advantages to having separate components is that one can go with a more powerful amp with a more basic pre amp, or vice versa, as you choose.

Your equipment choices look quite good. Use good speakers. Enjoy.

I would think that it would be better if they did come from the same make..but I'm no audio expert..according to above answers obviously it doesn't matter!

    rock on =]

Only if you want to; you can match up different brands.
