Whats red sticky rice and how is it cooked?

I went to an Asian market the other day to buy some brown rice, when I saw some red sticky rice sitting near it.I thought it was just unmilled, like the brown, and cooked in the same way.I would like to know more about it before I attempt cooking with it.

Red sticky rice is actually purple. It is made from the jasmine plant and is very aromatic. You cook it just like brown rice.

the best way to cook rice is to use 1 part rice and 2 parts water (1cup rice: 2cups water). using hot water doesn't really make any difference. the trick is once you place your pot on the stove the temperature should be on high and once it starts to boil, turn the temperature way down to low then wait until the rice cooks. the way to tell if it is cook is when the water evaporates and once you try the rice it is soft up to the center. and remember to never stir the rice once you turn the temperature to low and don't constantly open the pot. a reason why you have sticky rice is maybe the variety of rice you are using. there are a ton of varieties of rice and usually the consistency depends on what type you are using. hope this helps
