ADHD Question?
I was diagnosed as ADHD when i was a child and my mother made the decision that we could deal with it with out the Ridilin the doctor percribed. I have bad concentration probs, with memory probs, and well all the symptoms i read on the websites. I have tried adderall and it really helped. I dont know how to appoach a doctor on this issue. I was always taught that it should not be dealt with through drugs. So how do i bring this up?
I dont want to look as if im looking for a certain drug but i know adderall works and would like to be precribed that one since i know it worked but i dont feel i can say i tried it because i didnt have a precription. Should I mention that or will that look like I am an addict?

Also getting to doctors are difficult for me since i havent been at my job long and i work from 7:30am to 4:30pm...so i was just also wondering if my primary care provider could help me without a psychiatrist?

The best way to bring it up is by being direct and blunt. Report to your physician just what you have reported here. Keep a log of your symptoms. Call up your doctor, sit yourself in the examining room and say:
"I need to discuss my ADHD with you. Although I was not treated as a child (by my mother's choice) I find now that the symptoms are simply not tolerable. What are my options" -
Then the doc and you can take it from there.
Best of luck,

All any good doctor will need to hear is the problems you're reporting. Leave the diagnosis and treatment recommendations to them, and the discussion should be well on its way.
Some general practitioners are reluctant to prescribe stimulant medications, because of their potential for abuse, so you may simply want to ask for a referral to a psychiatrist, who is better equiped to tell exactly what's going on with you, anyway.
You may not even need to see your GP if your insurance plan lets you self-refer.

When you ask the question just tell him your symptoms. tell him the problems you have with concentration and your hyperactivity. Doctors won't judge, they are meant to help you and they will do there very best to do so
