I love seaweed.
Protein content in seaweed varies somewhat. It is low in brown algae at 5-11% of dry matter, but comparable in quantitative terms to legumes at 30-40% of dry matter in some species of red algae. Green algae, which are still not harvested much, also have a significant protein content, i.e., up to 20% of dry matter. Spirulina, a micro-alga, is well known for its very high content, i.e., 70% of dry matter.
This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Vitamin K, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Riboflavin, Folate, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Copper and Manganese.
The bad: This food is very high in Sodium.

Well its a good source of omega 3 fatty acids.. People think that eating fish is healthy because fish contains high amount of omega 3, but what they actually dont know is that the fish gets the omega 3 from the plants that it eats. And when you eat algae and seaweed, you dont get the toxic mercury that fish contains. Its very healthy. I wouldnt say its a good substitute for meat though. Beans, nuts, soy, and leafy green vegetables are perfect to eat instead of meat. They all contain more than enough protein and vitamins!

It isn't really a good substitute for meat, but if you put it in some tofu-veggie stir fry them it would be a good substitute for meat.
