Did you ever meet your great grandmother or great grandfather?
I knew two great grandmothers and it just struck me that my children will never know their great grandparents - all of my grandparents have died.

I know my two great grandmothers and I knew my great grandfather, but that was all on my mother's side. Never knew my dad's side, I think he kind of feels the same way you probably do. He talks about his grandparents all the time.

We seem to be a family of late bloomers. Both sets of my great grandparents died many, many years before I was born--probably in the mid 1800's. My two grandfathers died on the same day in 1914, at the beginning of WWI, 26 years before I was born. I talked to my dad's mother on the phone a couple of times, back in the days when it was, "Shhh! It's long distance!" because she lived about 3500 miles away. I never met her. She died when I was 9. The only grandmother I ever knew was my mother's adoptive mother. We visited her for two weeks every August. She was born in 1864 and died in 1953. My own mother would now be 106 if she had lived. My own father would be <gulp> 120 if he had lived. He died when I was 19.
