Granny square??

I just taught myself to crochet and I've been working on just the basic granny square. I can get the first round done, but I get confused on how to start the second round. It says slip stich, but when I do it doesn't look right. Any tips or any detailed websites I can go to.

You need the slip stitch to join the rounds. I don't know what your pattern directions are, but normally, after you make the slip stitch, you chain a certain number to start the first stitch for the next round.

Maybe this website will help you:

It has a tutorial, with pictures, on how to make the basic granny square using a foundation chain and joining rounds with a slip stitch.

My friend Teresa who is a member of my yahoo group called frankfortcraftclub ,has over 200 utube crochet videos. A few are to show how to make granny squares. I use her videos all the time to teach me different crochet stitches. I hope it helps you too. Also, feel free to join our group for even more personal crochet help and some great site links.

Go here and check out the learn to crochet on the left hand side. Then you should check out the different stitches the have there. That should help you out a lot.
