I live in Florida and I have MetroPCS. I think it is worth what you pay for. The plans are 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 dollars. You also get unlimited minutes. But if there is no such thing as that company where you live, I suggest you get T-Mobile. It has great coverage in all areas.

Sprint right now has the lowest plan rates. Otherwise if you are thinking you won't use the phone and a bunch of extra services all that much, you could go with a pay as you go service like virgin mobile.

metroPCS is the cheapest... iphone is overpriced... the new 16G one without a 2-year contract with AT&T is like $699 ....the smallest and cheapest one is still $299 with a contract

The Iphones are around 400 dollars and you can only get them from At&t,which Is pretty cheap.
