I have a Canon PoweeShot 3 and it works pretty good but it's a bit complicated. Nikon Is also a very good product. It's your choice. Unless you want to go into photography for money don't pay more than 500.00$.

    Here's what PCWorld says:

    Canon Digital Cameras

    A Freelance Photographers Best Friend

Canon is one of the most trusted brands on the market, and deserves that title. Canon cameras offer the best picture taking options for any freelance digital photographer. They have great uploading software, easy yet intricate interface and photo features that easily surpass other cameras. The whole design of every digital camera looks and feels great. If are just learning how to get started taking, uploading and selling you digital pictures a Canon camera is a good choice. You won't get hung up on learning the camera, and constant retakes because Canons have so many features to help you through the photo shooting process. You can find the best models for under 400 dollars and you'll be working with professional equipment.

    Nikon Digital Cameras

    Technology for the Freelance Photographer

Nikon is known for the highest technology and highest prices. Don't worry there is hope, because they do make some very good digital cameras at an affordable price. Nikon is the leading competitor to Canon, depending on what you prefer, they both have pros and cons. To name Nikon's main strength, it has a very advanced wireless/wifi system. You can upload your digital photos wirelessly to your computer, which is very efficient for freelance digital photographers. Although, this technology can be a little difficult at first getting over the learning curve is well worth the faster uploading, which means faster profits from your photos.

It's all subject to personal preference. I use a Canon 400D, as does my mother, but my sister swears by her Nikon D60, and my wedding photographer also uses a Nikon.

As someone else said, you'll tend to get "Canon" from Canon users and vice versa with Nikon. In reality both companies make very good cameras.

If a Canon user replies to your question he or she will likely say "Canon" and vice versa for Nikon. So it may be difficult for you to get a truly useful answer unless someone responds who has extensively and recently used both.

Let's face it though these two names dominate the world market so they can't be all that far away from equal.

Still looking for even minor differences? Then I believe, for their SLR ranges, Canon offers the better optics and range of lenses but Nikon is ahead on the electronics.

    Canon

They are both good, but Canon is a little better than Nikon, just because you have to buy special lenses and stuff for Nikons. Canon is better.

Once again, some say Nikon, and some say Canon. What I think you should do is decide what yu can spend, and then go to a real camera store and handle the ones in our price range. Try the controls and take some pictures. You will he know the one for you when you hold it in your hands.

Both those brands are excellent, each has little things to recommend it. Sony is also excellent. You should look at the features of the models you are interested in and see if any particular feature is a 'must have' for you personally. It's like asking the difference between Ford and GM car brands - each brand has its passionate followers.

Unfortunately Robbie doesn't know what he is talking about. Nikon doesn't use special lens in fact Nikon's will work with lens made back in the early 70's.
