My jeep stals in idle?

It sometimes has issues stalling when I push the clutch in and brake. It is fine if I leave a foot on the gas and idle it manualy but If I let the gas off then It will die. This problem only occurs after it has been running for a time. What might be the cause of this? I did a tune up and will replace the fuel filter before the week is out and I will adjust the cardurator to idle more rich. It is a 1991 jeep Wrangler YJ with a 258/4.2 inline six engine.

Update:

When I first start it up every day it runs fine. The gears shift smoothly, all of them, and th problem does not start until about 1/2 hour later if I stop rolling. I know how to drive a standard and my clutch is fine.

Unless you have to wear a suit to work, surely you're driving with the top town. But if you are running the air conditioner constantly, you might want to check the compressor to make sure the belt cam bearings are greased and it's not putting to much of a strain on the motor. Checking the idle is a good idea.

I assume your tuneup included points, plugs, wires, and distributor. If you don't have the problem while you're in gear without depressing the accelerator it could be a timing issue. Speaking of timing, if the chain is fractured you could be in jeopardy of throwing a rod. You might want to take it to a mechanic.

well those things should fix that idling problem. And if that doesnt fix it try to get the acceloratr on the engine from going back so far.

possibly clutch dying out on you or the starter.

no telling for sure though, you're gonna have to get a mechanic to check it out.

sorry, but over the net, there are endless guesses, you really need to get it looked at.

    good luck
