My dog is having terrible complications after neutering, how rare is this and could I of done more?
His sack swelled up so he was put on antibiotics. I took him back as it seemed to get worse and was told it may need to be removed. He's been back again today as it has a blood blister and since then it has ruputred (although only a little). He has a temperature and is sleeping with the pain killers now. He is going for a second operation tomorrow to have it all removed. I just feel a bit guilty - maybe it was my fault. He didn't excerise for 10 days and had a collar on for that long too. Is he just unlucky?
Thanks for your help. He had another op and today when I woke up his tail was wagging again and he has been bugging me to go out - no chance for quite a while I think! He is definitely on the mend so I am very happy.
Today I found out that somebody's dog had got killed by a bus too which has made me count my blessings!

Complications following a neuter are rare. What are they?
If your dog had undescended testicles, the surgery is more invasive, and has a greater impact on recovery time--was this the case?
Add: I don't know that I'd say he's unlucky, just law of averages that some dogs will have a problem. It doesn't sound like you didn't anything wrong. It's unfortunate that he'll need another surgery, but the bright side is--he's not in that 1 % of dogs that has some unforseen reaction to anesthesia, which would have been very sad. Count your blessings that all can be fixed, good luck!

Don't know what the problem is but call the vet! You are suppose to keep him quiet and his collar on for 10 days. You did just fine. Either he just had a bad time of it or the vet could have been a little rough. I hope he feels better soon. Keep us posted. You did everything correctly

More info would be great - if it is an infection those sometimes (rarely) do happen afte ra neuter surgery. OUr dog had severe swelling, then absess, then bleeding. He is okay now, they put him on antibiotics. I don't know if you could have done more - what did you do?
