what causes pain behind left ear?

I have been having pain behind my left ear since yesterday. It comes between a count of around 15 and 30.

    Throat problem(infection) or just plain bad throat due to very cold drinks/food could give you pain in your ears (not behind) . For that you either take some anti biotics, gargle with a disprin/salt and take lukewarm water till your throat became better. If you were Indian, I would have advised to chew " SUALIN' tablets by "Hamdard" company for sure relief.
