My computer's making a doonk doonk sound every 3 minutes, on the dot. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
My pc operates with Windows Vista. I've checked emails and closed all windows and have no alarms/reminders saved. I've also restarted the computer, but it's still happening. I can't see anything, no messages or screens pop up when it occurs. I've also run a McAfee scan and there were no problems there. It's never happened before, just in the last hour or two. Can anyone help?
It's a sound coming from the computer, so it's not a fan or something external. I'll restart it and check all connections and try it again tomorrow. Thanks so far everyone.

I agree with River 2 Electric Boogaloo about the plugging something into your USB port.
I've had the same problem on occasion if my scanner connection gets jostled.
Turn off your PC, check all your hardware and cord connections, then power up your PC again.
If this is not the problem, it could be one of two other things: your Java error messages or junk pop up windows.
Check your settings by going into your browser menu TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, and under the General Tab click DELETE COOKIES, then DELETE TEMPORARY FILES (this one will take a while and these two are just for a general start to rid problems), then in the PRIVACY tab, put your pop up settings at MEDUIM or higher.
I'm not sure though how to end constant notification of multiple Java errors.
Hope some of this was helpful.
Good luck.

It's probably a hardware problem. It's hard to know based upon your description, but there are two possibilities: a bad fan, or a bad hard drive. Try opening he case and watching it when it's running - make sure nothing is blocking the fans and they're all turning freely. But this sounds like it could be a failed hard drive. Check the Event Viewer and see if there are any messages related to the drive.

Most likely - either someone is instant messaging you, or it thinks you are plugging something into the USB port.
It might be a virus - but not likely.
