  • Are smart phones still useful even if one doesn't purchase a data plan?

My husband and I are interested in getting smartphones but have pre-paid accounts. We can still text with our digital cell phones at 20 cents per text but we do not text often. We do not wish to purchase a data plan. However we are wondering if a smartphone is still useful as a phone without the data plan. We just like some of the features of the phone aside from texting and internet.

  • My Kenmore dryer is operating but there's no heat; what's the problem?

We purchased our Kenmore dryer in 2003 or 2004 and it's not heating. It tumbles the laundry but there isn't any heat on the highest setting. I've tried resetting the circuit breaker (has it's own) and I've tried unplugging it. The vent hose is clean and attached properly. The lint trap is clean as well. Other than the possibility that the heating coil probably shot craps, is there anything else that could possibly be the problem?

  • Should carpet be stretched before machine scrubbing?

A friend has asked me to rent a carpet scrubber & clean his carpeting for him (for pay). However, I've noticed the carpeting is rippled & needs stretching. I'm not able-bodied enough to operate a stretcher & knee-kicker so that part would need to be up to a pro. Should the carpet be stretched before I clean it?

  • Does the patient feel anything when the pacemaker is working?

I'm asking for an elderly friend who was advised to get a pacemaker. He refuses because he's afraid of surgery and wants to know what's all involved and what it's like to have one.

What is involved in getting a pacemaker?

Does the person feel anything if the pacemaker makes the heart beat properly?

    How long do pacemakers last?

I've done research and got some answers but would like to hear from actual pacemaker patients or those who have a friend/relative with a pacemaker and can give some insight.

  • Do babies with long legs tend to start walking later than babies with short legs?

A friend of mine is over 6 feet tall & he has long legs. He didn't start walking until age 2. My nieces are all short in leg length and stocky, they started walking around or before their first birthday. My daughter is 15 months & is "all legs" and she is just now trying to pull herself up.

  • 15 month old not walking yet; should I be concerned?

My 15 month old daughter, born 3 weeks early, has been meeting her physical milestones later than what's expected. She rolled over only twice when she was 5 & 5.5 months old, then in her crib when she was 8 months then on a regular basis at 10 months. She started crawling on her tummy 3 weeks after her first birthday. At 14.5 months she finally pulled herself into a sitting position. She's now 15 months old & is FINALLY making motions to take a step if I hold her hands & prompt her. Should I be concerned that she's not further along? Her ped. wants me to take her to a physical therapist. She's just now getting out of the stage of fussing & crying when I make her stand at me feet. Any other parents have this experience?

  • What's causing patches of dead grass (zoysia)?

My front yard is all zoysia. We've had small patches of dead grass here and there. However, during the past several years it appears that large patches of dead are forming. We've successfully planted & transplanted large areas of sod over an area where a tree & stump were removed seven years ago but the dead areas are not over the transplanted areas. The dead patches are on gently sloping areas as well as flat areas. Any idea what's going on?

  • What could be causing loud sucking on bottle nipples?

My 12 week old daughter is making very loud sucking noises on her bottle nipples (Dr. Brown step 1 & Medela slow flow nipples). Early on, it seemed she wasn't getting enough milk so I poked a wire brush through the nipple holes & she's feeding faster & more satisfied. It seemed like it was already happening before I poked the brush through the nipples. The sucking noise stops when she flanges her mouth better over the entire nipple. She doesn't appear to be any more gassy than before this became very noticeable. Could it be she needs larger nipples?

If it's useful to know, she also had problems latching on to the breast, getting good hard suction, etc. My nipples didn't get very big. She doesn't like the First Years breast feeding bottles because she has to put forth extra effort to feed. Breast feeding issues is WHY I put her on the bottle.

I can't seem to get an answer anywhere (waiting for the pediatrician to return my call in the meantime).

    Thanks!

  • What is the best formula to help with my baby's constipation?

My 9 week old daughter has a bowel movement every other day. The doctor said that's normal. When she does have a BM, she seems really fussy in the hour or hours leading up to it. She turns beat red as she strains to pass gas on occasion. She's on Enfamil Premium with Lipil but I've also tried Similac for Gas & Fussiness. I've also tried using Dr. Brown's bottles. The bottles do make some difference in the gas but she still seems to be constipated every other day. Any advice from other parents?

  • Where can I find a store in north St. Louis County (St. Louis MO) that sells insects/larvae to kill aphids?

I have a problem with aphids on my shrubs and am told The Bug Store in Kirkwood, MO sells praying mantis larvae to place on the shrubs to hatch & eat the aphids. Is there a place closer to north St. Louis County I can go to that will sell the same? The chemicals & eco friendly homemade solutions I'm using aren't working well.

  • Is cat dental cleaning really that necessary?

I just returned from my cats annual vet visit. My vet is pressuring me for the second year in a row to get dental cleanings for both my cats. They are 8 & 8.5 years old. The dental cleanings require a blood test to check the liver & kidneys for medication tolerance, anesthesia, antibiotics, & an overnight stay. I've heard nothing but scary stories about cats recovering from dental cleanings. My husband grew up with many cats throughout his life & never had a problem with cats needing dental care. The dental cleaning will cost $241.00!!! We feed them hard crunchy cat food & do not allow them to roam. Your opinions please?

  • Skin sensitive to touch late in pregnancy?

I am almost 35 weeks along with #1 & for the past week or so, I've noticed my skin is becoming sensitive to touch. The skin on my arms & face actually HURTS to touch with my hands or clothing. Can this be normal?

Also, over the past few weeks I've noticed that when I scratch an itch on my back, arms, legs or belly, my skin is so sensitive that I accidentally leave bloody scratch marks too.

I just read on babycenter.co.uk that skin sensitivity can be due to hormones and stretching but it doesn't quite fit what I'm experiencing.

This sensitivity to touch is the same sensation I get when I'm running a fever (when not pregnant), except this time I don't have a fever; I just took my temp and it's 97.6 degr. Staying out of the sun & heat, refraining from warm showers & drinking plenty of water hasn't helped either.

  • MS Access help with tables & forms?

I am using MS Access 2003, created a table, queries, reports & forms. I've learned how to make the information entered in the form correctly carry over to the table and how to calculate commission amounts in my form but the problem is the amount calculated is not carrying over to my table.

For instance here are some of the columns in my table: Total Sale, Percent Commission, and Commission Earned. Thus my calculation in the Commission Earned field of my form is [$Total Sale] * [Percent Commission]. The Commission Earned field is correctly filled in with the calculated amount for each record but the amounts are not carrying over to my table like the rest of the information for that record is.

I've already consulted MS Office help and I can't seem to get anywhere. Can some help desk whizzes familiar with Access help me please?

    Thanks!

  • How do I calculate a total of an entire column in MS Access 2003?

I have books, have used the help feature and have already been to MS Office Help site and still can't figure it out.

What I have is a table of all my sales information, created a query for each individual salesperson that includes the Product Name, Price, and the $ Sales Commission. Then I created a report for each individual salesperson (based on the query) in which each line shows information for each field stated in the query (Product Name, Price & $ Sales Commission).

What I would like to do in each individual report is have a *total* of all sale commission combined from sales for that individual salesperson and have that *total* appear at in the report header (I know the information change with the addition of more commissions from that person's individual sales...I want it to).

All I need to do is total one single column of figures. I've already sought help from various sources tried to create the scenario but when I save and go to view the report, nothing happens. I've even tried to calculate a percentage of the price to come up with a commission figure and even tried calculations in the query (based on the help guide). Nothing is working. Ugh! I need to resolve this in the next few days.

    Thanks.

  • Does lack of reaction to glucose drink mean all is OK?

After fasting from food & fluids for more than a few hours early this morning, I drank my glucose drink for my glucose tolerance screening this morning then had my blood drawn an hour after finishing the test. I was very hungry to begin (obviously) with but did not feel any reaction to the very sweet drink. Does this mean I will not have gestational diabetes? The doctor said a pregnant woman can have gestational diabetes and not even know it; there are no symptoms. I forgot to ask my doctor about the lack of reaction. The results will be in tomorrow or the next day.

I'd like to hear from others who've had this experience or if you know of others who did.

  • MS Access 2003 help please?

I have been given the task of creating a database of clients for a friend's company. What she ultimately wants is an easy way to type in a clients name and pull up that person's information. Can that be done in MS Access or is software development needed?

I am using MS Access 2003 and so far, I've imported a table from the Excel spreadsheet to create a table in Access.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, I haven't found my answer yet in the book I have: Essentials Microsoft Access 2003 Level One (by Toliver). I am currently reading about creating auto forms.

  • Does anyone find the need to wear their support belt to bed during pregnancy?

For the past few days I experienced a lot of abdominal & pelvic pain & painful urination due to muscles & ligaments stretching. My OB recommend a support belt which I just got yesterday. It made a huge difference! The problem is, the pain & discomfort returned 30 minutes after removing it and going to bed. I couldn't move without pain and ultimately put it back on and slept comfortably. My niece had a fit and said I should have to wear it unless I'm up and moving around. Has anyone else had the need to wear theirs to bed?

  • Is it possible to have a bladder infection but not feel painful urination?

I'm 17 weeks preggo w/ #1 and the past few days I've noticed a tea-stain color watery discharge in my clothes. Last night I was up every 30-40 minutes going to the bathroom...a lot more frequent than my usual every 2 hours. I just called the doctor's office and will be going in a few hours. They said I could be leaking fluid or have a urinary infection. I told her my history of infections years ago were always very painful. She said it could be different in pregnancy.

Has anyone experienced these kinds of infections nd NOT experienced painful urination?
