How long is the catholic church going to get away with this?
Another sexual abuse/cover scandal in the Catholic Church.
Surely with all it's glitz and glitter. spandex and jewelery, not to mention dressing it's clergy in big girls dresses, the Catholic Church is hoping to attract the 'theatrical' not the
pious.

I find that remark totally offensive - I am not the perputrator of the abuse - and the Church has done enough burning of Churches and it's own faithful to fill a library.
I'm not sure how to add links but as the 7.30 report devoted a large portion of it's programme last night and yesterday to this new story as well as interviews with abise victims I don't think I'm fanning flames.
Google Catholic Church sex abuse if you have any problems with this.
The Catholic Church in South Australia is embroiled in a fresh sex abuse scandal just as Pope John Paul II was prompted by a wave of such scandals worldwide to condemn those involved as casting a dark shadow of suspicion over the entire church.
As the church haemorrhages money and payouts over such scandals, most recently in the United States, the South Australian allegations are that for ten years the church covered up crimes against students at a school for the intellectually disabled.
I'm not using propoganda I'm a Catholic that was sexually abused.
Senital
Hasn't the 'thing' become so indememic because
the victims have been afraid to come forward and reveal what has happened to them.
Catholics are brainwashed from the first day at a Catholic school - I would never have told my parents that my knickers were being flicked and my buttocks fondled as my schoolwork was being marked. And that's the least of it.
How many of you Catholics answering infer that I'm lying, causing trouble, or untrustworthy - can't you see you are burying your heads and minds and thoughts. Do I love Jesus by letting the clergy betray me?
Shi Tao There is really no arguement in saying well there are other people who 'do worse/more/etc'
In 2000 there were 742.611 priest ordained in the Catholic Church and apparantly 'ONLY' 1% of those priest committed sexual abuse -( a figure put forward by the Catholic Church) given that in most cases the Priest was found guilty of more than 1 offence one Priest actually had 100 prooved cases against him - you do the sums - that's a lot of sexual abuse convictions.

Well, you could gather your friends, arm yourselves with pitchforks and torches and burn the churches down.
EDIT:
I understand and respect your choice to find / regard the remark offensive and fail to see the intended humor. It was my way of saying what I'm restating below.
The CORRECT ANSWER TO YOUR QUERY (rephrasing what is above) is: until the people that take exception to their actions band together and stand up in sufficient force and numbers as a group and demand action from their government, they (the church) will do as they please and deal with it in a manner they find acceptable...just as any autonomous group will do.
Do you choose to find that version less offensive?

I am sorry for your abuse, I really am. So is the Pope.
Any abuse is a terrible thing, no matter who the abuser is.
Just an FYI if you are not still involved in the Church.
The Catholic Church now requires ALL people that come in contact with youth to go through classes to help recognize abuse. They also go through a background check.
Most of the abuse happned years ago, and not all of the cases reported actually happned in the first place. But to be sure there was some and some Bishops did cover it up no question.
So I am sorry for your pain, maybe learning more about the faith will help you heal. Right now the largerst group of molesters are School teacher, by a wide margin and non-Catholic Clergy is many times more likely than Catholic Clergy to abuse.
So it is not about the glitz or glitter or how they dress, or being "Theatrical" there is much less theater in a Catholic Church than any other Protestant of Fundamental Church I have ever attended, and I was a Protestant for 42 years.
When you get down to it, what is any Church made up of? Humans right? Where did the Catholic (Or any) Church claim to be made up of only perfect people? Priests, Preachers, Teachers, Baseball Coaches, even Health Care Workers and Baby sitters have some Pedophiles among them.
You should judge the Catholic Church by it's beliefs and its teachings, the same way you judge any other organization, be it your Public School System, the Boy or Girl Scouts, or the Catholic Church.
Peace be with you and may God Bless you!
Source(s): Any "thumbs down that Catholics give to some of these answers is not because we don't know what happend, and it is not because we are in denial, I give them when the poster misrepresents the facts. Like "Something needs to change" Guess what it ALREADY has! Or "It is a centruies old tradition in the Church" It is not any more in the Church than in society. Please do some looking at the steps that the Catholic Church has taken to help keep this from happening again. Go to: www.Catholic.com - 1 decade ago
Actually, there are more sexual abuses among Democrats then among Catholics.
But since one of those groups enjoys a near monopoly on news reporting and editorials; guess which group gets reported?
That's right, the one that claims to know the best for children.
STs!
FYI: My childhood experiences carry as much weight as yours.
My time in Catholic School is the time where I was SAFE.
Contrast that with the (Left controlled) Public Schools that afforded me little to no safety at all. There were truly dangerous kids there. Some of whom committed a great deal of damage.
The priests and nuns got stuck with me; a kid with a ton of problems.
All of them brought about by SECULARIST adults and their offspring who had bought into the lie of moral relativism.
The denial of today comes from people who refuse to publish sexual abuse statistics compiled across several demographics.
The only damage I ever incurred within a religion is when my faith in Christ was twisted into attacking other faiths when I was an Evangelical Christian.
Yet another case of Catholics being the victim of harassing obsession.
I am no longer Catholic because I disagree with the doctrine.
I do support the Catholic Church because I haven't been brainwashed by society or other faiths into ignoring the good they bring to my planet.
STs!
Source(s): Your chances of being successfully abused by a secularist, in my town, were about 1 in 4. Nearly everyone had stories of someone who attempted it. Do that math. STs! - 1 decade ago
You're a Catholic that was sexually abused...
Did you report this? Did you do anything about it? Do you have proof?
The Catholic Church has not been getting away with it. If you think the clergy are being dressed in girl dressed, then you apparently have no idea of Catholic faith. That has been the priests garb since the very beginning of the church.
As for this "another sexual abuse/cover scandal", post a link. It's not that hard, you open a browser, find the page, copy the url (that's the bar that says address) and the paste it in your question. Nothing special about it...
If you actually looked at these scandals then you would know that all the cover ups took place during the 60's and 70's, there has not been a priest arrested on any charges that happened recently.
If you want to call attention to a sexual abusing church, then look at Jehovah's Witnesses. To even do anything against their ministers, there has to be two witnesses to the abuse that happened and no, the person being abused doesn't count as a witness. So four people have to be present to make a complaint against one of their ministers.
Look: http://www.silentlambs.org/
What about the Methodist church? They actually came out on the News and said they had a larger problem with sexual abuse and harrassment in their church than the Catholic Church did. Of course, this didn't make headline news because their priests marry and then it wouldn't be that the Catholic priests are celibate that is the problem.
Only 1.6% of Catholic clergy have been accused of sexual abuse of a parishoner, that's accused, not found guilty of. Many priests that have been arrested have been released.
Over 10% of Protestant clergy have been found guilty of sexual abuse of a parishoner.
I'm sorry, I don't believe you were abused, I'm sorry if you were, but I don't believe you. I think you're just trying to get a rise out of people and start another "war" on Answers.
If you truly were, then you should've reported it.

Strange how we never hear of the many false charges brought against Catholic priests, the one`s that are thrown out of court because the plaintiff has been found guilty of trying to illegally extract a huge sum of money by false witness.
It seems that it is open season for making wild and unsupported accusations for monetary gain, insurance companies throughout the USA and Europe have literally hundreds of thousands of such false claims covering every conceivable trick in the book.
I would never take the word of someone who comes on this forum and broadcasts such a statement as this one.

I'm sorry you were sexually abused by anyone.
My sister was sexually abused by our father. These things go on in all walks of life, in all areas of religion, education, sports, daycare, neighborhoods etc.
The problem is focusing on one religion as if it is central to the sex abuse scandals that plague our nation. It is not. The world has a problem, sex abuse of children and teens is rampant. Sometimes the filth of sin infiltrates our churches. We feel more betrayed because we expect more from our clergy. But the fact is that they are human beings, the church has no fail safe way of keeping these types of people out of the church. They do their best, but some slip through.
Perverts are always looking for a way to satisfy their perversions. They scout out jobs and situations that will give them access. That is what they do. Some get jobs in daycares, some in coaching positions, some in churches. Yet we never hear anyone lashing out against daycare workers or coaches as a group. Why? Is it okay for them to abuse our children? No. http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/...
Yes, there were cover ups. But anyone in the Church who has been convicted of any illegal activity has been disciplined. Everything else is speculation unless we have proof. Just like we all know OJ killed his wife, but he didn't go to jail for it. You can't condemn people on speculation, no matter how you "feel" about it.
Did you ever watch "To Catch a Predator?" Not one of those men (and it's always men) was a Catholic priest. Most of them were either homosexual, or heterosexual men with wives, girlfriends, or access to sex with an adult. Yet they were so anxious to have sex with a minor they put themselves in jeopardy and drove hours for a possible rendezvous. This was just a small slice of the American pedophile problem.
The country as a whole had participated in the cover up of sexual abuse. In our schools, in our athletic associations, in our own families and neighborhoods. It is a prevalent problem. This is not to make the Catholic Church sex abuse "okay" but to point out that the problem is a societal one and not a religious one. We just tend to expect those who have devoted their life to the service of God to somehow be better people than everyone else, and when they turn out to be human, we are seriously disappointed.
The majority of sex abusers are men. Should we make assumptions that all men are dangerous sex abusers? Of course not.
My point is only that sex abuse is a crime, a betrayal of innocence and something we all need to work together to erradicate. We need to protect our children and teens from predators in all areas of life. No one should "get away" with such an act, not a priest, nor anyone else. Focusing on the Church leads people to believe that their kids are safe elsewhere, when in fact they are not.

Link please?
And since when does the Catholic church use spandex? Never saw that in Mass.

Cardinal George Pell in WA is under pressure because he has knowingly and willfully protected and defended a sodomist and pervert priest that he had full knowledge of.
It has long been believed that Georgy boy swings this way too and he has been under the microscope.
The RC church is under such scrutiny worldwide that a single door opening cases against the sodomites that run this church all the way to the top ( yes even the "Holy father" ) was to succeed would send the church bankrupt.
Here is hoping!

As long as the parishioners stay in denial, this will not stop. Don't they realize that there is a pedophile cult within the catholic church? Even the priests that are innocent, still new. The knowledge of this, goes right to the top. The church needs a major overhaul. Starting with allowing married men to enter the priesthood. What's gets me is they are preforming these acts in the name of god. They are the ultimate in prey stalking.
P.S. Look at the attitudes of the parishioners on this board. They could care less about the victims. With all their thumbs down. This is exactly the reason why this will continue. Unless of course if it happens to their own child.
Just asking. Sorry you had to go through this. I know of two people that were molested and it has damaged their lives. This was the reason why the kids didn't come forward in the first place for fear of not being believed. The people of the church choose the believe this holier than thou person over the kids. Which is exactly the reason why the priests went into the priesthood to begin with.

The glitz and glitter came from an era when the Church had the money, power and the educated.
The robes and garments are ritualistic and help focus the wearer that they are in a state to perform their role. "Big Girls Dresses" is over the top and insulting don't you think?
As for the sex scandals, perhaps the church needs to rethink the way they force their priests to be celibate. By forcing them to repress sexual urges it only creates monsters of men who have to release their urges in all manners of despicable ways.
