The Cummins is the motor brand that is used in the truck. Just as Ford's Powerstroke is built by International/Navistar, and Chevy/GMC's Duramax is built by Isuzu.

Anybody can get into a pissing match over which truck is better, or which engine is better of makes more power... BUt that isn't what your asking. Simply put, any Dodge pickup that has a diesel motor, has a Cummins motor in it, you pop the hood and it will say CUMMINS on the valve cover.

The 12V Cummins was used from 89-98.5. From 98.5 till 2002 the 24V VP44 injection motor was used. In 2003, the Common Rail cummins motor was used.

Yeah, it runs on diesel, offroad diesel, bio-diesel, ect. The only motor you really need to worry about is the 6.7L in the new trucks that require the ULSD, they don't like the bio because of new emissions requirements.

    Good Evening eman :

First a little history on me. I worked for a used car dealer here in Wv. We sold a lot of cars and trucks on eBay Motors

so we needed a delivery truck. So we shopped around and found a Dodge 1Ton Dually we took it to Ky. And Hodges Custom Haulers lengthen the frame and put a car hauling bed on it. The truck was equipped the Cummins Turbo Diesel

that your question was about. Cummins makes Diesel Engines for 1 ton Dodge trucks and also for large over the road trucks as in 18 wheelers. Now Cummins is a tuff engine

when the owner of the lot where i worked passed away. His wife sold the business and still has the truck. The truck has 300,000.00 miles showing and the engine has never been apart. The diesel engine runs on Street Diesel or would run on Off Road Diesel if it was put in the tank. The Diesel engine has gobs of get down and pull power that engine works on the Low Torque band as a car works on a high torque band. Our truck got 26mpg loaded and pulling a loaded 18' trailer along too.

Hope i have helped you out buddy.

Cummins Atlantic makes the diesel engine that Dodge uses. Cummins is widely known to make the best diesel engines available in light duty trucks. Avoid the Chevy at all costs.

Cummins is the brand name of the engine. they manufacture light, medium, and heavy duty engines for various worldwide markets, including the dodge truck platform.they are also found in yachts, cruiseliners, trains, generators, cargo ships, and military trucks, and over the road trucks as well. the onan brand is owned by cummins, and is supplier for the engines.a cummins diesel will run on pretty much anything that can be ignited under high pressure, including diesel #1. off road diesel, corn oil,bio-diesel,moonshine,turpentine,and hydraulic fluid.

p.s the cummins 5.9 is in the stryker as well, and in the 900 series military 5 tons, and has an ultra reliable rating in a tactical enviroment

cummins is the motor manufactor. yes they run on #2 diesel during the summer months in the colder temps(15 deg or below) you need to run #1 diesel it dont matter if u mix the 2 it dont hurt the motor. they will out last any gas motor out there (500,000 miles or more ) butt the bad part of any diesel is if it brakes then open up your bill foled it will cost big cash to get it fixed. have u ever owned or driven a diesel before? its different the gas. plus the price of diesel thats $4.55 plus a gallon and to fill that 30 gallon tank thats $136 or more to fill that tank. oh yea if u drive that so much and run it out of diesel its a bit*h to get it primed again. well have fun

Source(s): i own a 2003 dodge ram diesel. and driven many other diesels out there

Cummins is the brand name of the engine that's all. Yes it runs on straight diesel. Just remember this little phrase..." I'd rather be Cummin than Strokin" (Ford makes the power stroke diesel engine)

Cummins is the manufacturer of the engine. It will run on diesel or vegetable oil like any other engine. Ford's engine is the Power Stroke and Chevy is the Duramax.

500,000 miles is a lot of miles for any diesel truck. Personally, I would get my money back from the dealership and find somewhere else to buy a truck. Especially, since the dealer sold you the truck without disclosing the mileage. You ran a CarFax on the truck and I am sure they did too. Good Luck! Lisa Customer Care Chrysler Group LLC
