Should I name our baby Sam or Samuel? And any middle name suggestions?
Both of us prefer Sam to Samuel, but I'm wary of giving him a nickname for a first name. Also, we don't know what to pick for a middle name. Last name is two syllables starting with "Sh."

Cool names, whichever one you go with.
Perfect middle name is Adam.

I would give him the name Samuel and then he would have the choice of whether or not he would like to go by Sam. I agree with you, i think Sam is to much like a nickname and not a first name.
I like:

Samuel Jacob
Samuel Elliot
Samuel Conner
Samuel Hunter
Samuel Clayton
Samuel Gorden

Samuel Robert

I love the name Sam...especially for a baby or little boy. You could always do samuel and call him sam for short..that way when hes older he can choose if he wants to be called sam or samuel.

Well if you call him Samuel you can always shorten it, and then if you ever get sick of Sam you can call him Samuel, but if you just call him Sam you don't have that versatility, lol.

Our son is Samuel, but we call him Sam. I would have liked him to have been Samuel James (he was born in 2-007 and the James was for James Bond!), however my Husband overruled and he ended up being Samuel Mark.
It could have been worse, my Hubbie suggest Samuel Donald Francis after both of our Dad's. As Sam was 2lb 4oz when he was born, the name would have been longer than him!

Go with Samuel, Sam for short. Everyone will assume that's the way it is anyway so make life easy for him. Besides, how else will he know when he's in trouble? LOL!

I always think the elongated version of a name is far nicer than a nickname for a first name. So I'd say name him Samuel. Then people have the option of calling him Sam.
What about:
Samuel Harvey Sh.....
Samuel Riley Sh.....
Samuel Joesph Sh.....
Samuel James Sh.....
Lots of nice names will go with Samuel, just nothing ending in 'l' or having 'sh' in it.
