How much fabric do I need to make curtains?
If I wanted to make a panel about 50" wide and 84" long, how many yards of fabric would I need to buy?
I will want to make 2 panels (it's for a bay window) and I don't want it to be too difficult.

unless you can find fabric that wide, you would need two and a half yards ..........or five yards with a seam, would make 72 inches wide..........I use two and a half yardss for i panel. but I always make two.....

There isn't enought information for an adequate answer.
How do you want the tops to be finished? Grommets, rod pocket, pleated, etc.
How wide is the fabric? Makes a difference when sewing strips together to make panel.
Do you want a patterned panel?
Take the measurement with you, and go to a FABRICstore. Ask one of the clerks. They will show what can be done, and the fabric to do it with, and the amount you'll need.

As Dorton girl above me said, for 50" wide you would require 6" hem on both sides that make 72" and the length depending on how many pleats per foot more pleats require longer fabric, go for 50% increase on the length would make a beautiful curtain. Good luck.
