Strengths and Weaknesses as a Writer?

What are your strengths and weaknesses as a writer?

Do you rock at dialogue? Are you gifted with metaphors?

Do your endings fizzle? Are your secondary characters clichéd?

I'll answer:

I do rock at dialogue. I love working with themes and intertextuality. My voice is witty.

I stink at subplots. The endings of my rough drafts often feel trite. Sometimes I have so much dialogue it looks like I'm writing a play instead of a novel.

Your turn!

    MY STRENGTHS:

    -I have no shortage of colourful, original ideas for stories.

    -I'm pretty good at building strong, 3 dimensional characters - I regard myself as a bit of an armchair emotionally psychologist, and I LOVE creating complex, sometimes rather twisted characters.

    -I have no problem painting images with words - I feel

    confident with language, am very visual, and people often comment on my vivid "word-painting."

    -I find it very easy to write dialogue, too. I think my writing voice is natural, reasonably witty...

    MY WEAKNESSES:

    -Creating logical plots, full of interesting sub-plots. I'm NOT a very logical person, and this is the bane of my life!!!

    -I often have a problem with "sagging middles." Eeeeek.

    -Often I include too much dialogue, too, to the point where I've contemplated turning to writing plays!

    -Pacing - sometimes I get too intense, and forget to pull back, and the poor reader must feel like she's stuck on a merry-go-round!

    -I tend to waffle far too much, reiterate things...

    Oh dear...but never mind, at least there's always a challenge.

    Fun question - thanks!

    Well to start off I am super great at similies and metaphores and especially personifications.. I love painting pictures for people. But here is the thing with my writing.. it is generally based on a dream.. I am not very good at just making up a story in a day (which makes English a horrible class for me!) and after these dreams.. or whatever it may be.. I think about the characters.. I consider this a strength I guess.. I sit there and I imagine every character and I literally have their WHOLE life story in my head.. it is like they are actually a person. I have to have the tiny details or else I don't get into my writing at all.

    But a huge weakness of mine is that I have A LOT of stories in my head.. the beginnings and the ends and somewhat of the middle.. so I start thinking ahead and I want other things to happen in their lives.. I just want to add a lot more to the characters lives and get into more depth. I am not very good at the whole organization of it. Than I usually get bored with it if my story is a long one because I have the story in my head.. but I just don't feel like putting it on paper. I don't know why.. but that is just how I am!

    Oh, I generally write mysteries or stories where is there is actually more to the story.. you know??

    Strengths: Wording. I love phrases, and I consider like one in all my strengths is combining phrases inside a sentence in order that they *sound* correct. I feel that my characters are an additional force. I'm now not afraid to make my characters horrible humans, and I placed them in such crappy occasions that they are not able to support however expand/ Weaknesses: Description, such as you. It simply does not come clearly. I often upload the naked minimal within the first draft, then upload on later. Plots. I began a tale pondering: "Hey, I have a individual, why do not I simply move from there?" That tale has been in my "In Progress" folder for months. I've slightly checked out it. I haven't any notion in which the tale goes. That is, if it is going wherever. My grammar might use a few paintings, too. Finally, I ought to paintings on discussion, and having each and every characters' voice be large. I've long past over my beyond paintings, and learned that my characters sound precisely the equal.

  • FLAWS;

    I lack consistency. One part might be mind-blowing, and another might be disgusting.

    My storylines can lack proper planning out. I often have to write chapters prior to publishing this on a site or something, because I tend to write myself into corners.

    My biggest problem? This is the one that causes others; I don't stick with what I start. Or, I just get bored or it gets too hard and I just give up.

    STRENGTHS;

    My characters are usually VERY well done, developed and all.

    The dialogue that I write is usually fitting to the mood very nicely.

    I suppose I've still got to grow a bit in my writing capabilities!

    Yeah, I'm pretty good at setting the mood with my dialogue, but I am extremely poor at similies and metaphors.

    My endings are always things that blow up in your face. They make you look back to make sure that you read right. I have NEVER written cliches. I stay as far away as possible from them.

    I love to write thrillers, action, and romance, but I am more for thrillers.
