Why is it easy to recognize good writing, or great writing, but difficult to produce it?
Even the best novel critic may find it almost impossible to write a book worth reading. I remember reading something about how we have different vocabularies for reading, listening, writing, and speaking, and I'm guessing this is a similar matter. But why is it?

Why the different vocabularies? It depends on your audience. We "dumb down" our conversations when necessary.
Why is it difficult to write? Writing is like a muscle: it must be exercised regularly. Good writing takes lots of practice.

descriptive writing always impresses people for example. the old dilapidated weatherboard house peeling from the generations of windstorms. Oh but it had such charm, i grew up in there, the garden the only thing i really remember.....
